Genuine Reverse Sensor Installation

    I fitted these some time ago but thought it would be worthwhile posting a guide. I bought these in black and had them sprayed at my wifes cousins bodyshop. Fitting is pretty straight forward but does take a couple of hours and not worth rushing.

    First thing disconnect the earth of the battery.

    So this was the full kit. Lots of little bits, 2 wiring looms, cable ties etc etc

    In the kit comes templates for marking the sensors so they are in the right place. I glued these onto cardboard and cut them out.

    Next stage was top mark out where the sensors should go. Using the templates this was easy. Measure twice though, drill once!

    I drilled a small pilot hole first to make it easier when using the holesaw.

    Next was to use a 28/9mm hole saw and drill the sctual holes. Scary!!!!

    Job done. Four nice holes.

    Next part was to remove the rear bumper. This pretty simple. At each side of the boot there is a blanker panel with a 10mm bolt underneath. Remove these firstly.

    Next there are three screws that need undoing by each rear wheel arch. There are two screws at the bottom edge but you only need to remove one of them.

    The final two clips are underneath the bumper and are pop fit fasteners. Use two screwdrivers carefully to prevent damage or breaking them:

    Once all these are released/undone the bumper then pops off at the corners and then removes:

    It is worthwhile putting the bumper onto something soft to prevent any damage to the paintwork etc.
    Next stage is to fit the reversing sensors into the actual bumper. This sounds simple but there are a fair few parts to the sensors. Firstly there is a rubber/silicone washer that goes on each of the sensors:

    Then push the collars into the bumper.

    On the rear of the collars put the collar retaining clip:

    Then you need to firmly push on the collar locking clip. These makes the collar pull tight towards the bumper and really needs to be pushed hard. It is on a sort of cable tie ratchet so it clicks as you push it home.

    Once these are done slide your sensor into the rear. It’ll clip into position. The connectors should face the centre. As below

    So that’s the sensors nicely installed and looking good. Next part is the wiring and connections.

    At that point you need to remove the boot carpet. This is fastened with two clips at the back. Be careful as these can break really easy. I used two wide and flat screwdrivers either side and out they came fine.

    You then need to remove the plastic trim as shown. This is just held in with clips. Be forceful and out it will come

    The electrics and route for the cabling are down the right hand side (looking from rear). You therefore need to remove the interior trim.

    This is held in with four clips (same as those that hold the boot carpet. Three are located in the boot whilst the fourth is located behind the rear offside seat. Once these are removed just pull it out.

    Next task is to feed the first of the harnesses through from the boot to outside. There is an existing gromit which needs to be removed. This just pops out.

    This is the first wiring loom.

    This simply goes through the hole and the gromit attached to the loom pushes in.

    There is an earth that fastens to an existing earth point.

    The loom is then fastened along the length of the crash bar as shown.

    The control unit now needs to be fitted. This is fastened to its bracket first.

    It then slots into the side as shown. I had to remove the sounder for the alarm which fastens to the bracket and locates in holes already there (don’t you just love Honda)

    In the kit you get various pads and I stuck these wherever sharp corners and the cable crossed (no picture for this)

    You then need to use the second wiring loom to connect to the first and to control unit. It is very simple with push connectors.

    Next stage was to fasten the speaker to the bodywork. There is a little bracket and a washer that needs to be used. This then fixes in the small space as shown:

    The next stage is to connect the power for t control unit to the existing loom. This means connecting to the main boot connector. This located at the back right. You need to remove the top connector block.

    Honda provide a very posh connector. You simply slide the new wire into the connector block and pass the wire that you want to splice into through it. A cover goes on and completes the job cutting through the wire. The wire I spliced into was the same colour as the power cable for the control unit. On the connector there are two rows of wires. The bottom row has six wires in it. Counting from the left it was the fifth wire across.

    The next stages were just to secure all the newly installed wiring.

    I reconnected the earth of the battery and then tested the new system. It worked perfect!

    It was then a matter of replacing all the interior trim and refitting the bumper. (In true Haynes style refitting is reverse of above)

    Finished job!

    Total time was about 3 hours with a break for lunch. The kit although expensive is top quality.
