Maintenance Schedule for Severe Conditions

  1. Ichiban
    Follow the Severe Conditions Maintenance Schedule if the customer's vehicle is driven MAINLY under one or more of the following conditions:
    • Driving less than 8 km (5 miles) per trip or, in freezing temperatures, driving less than 16 km (10 miles) per trip.
    • Driving in extremely hot over 35 °C (95 °F) conditions.
    • Extensive idling, or long periods of stop-and-go-driving.
    • Trailer towing, driving with a car-top carrier, or driving in mountainous conditions.
    • Driving on muddy, dusty, or de-iced roads.
    NOTE: If the vehicle is driven OCCASIONALLY under severe conditions, follow the Normal Conditions Maintenance Schedule.

    Check the valve clearance

    Replace fuel filter D17A2 engine, K20A9 engine
    Replace spark plugs D17A2 engine, K20A9 engine Every 40,000 km (25,000 miles)
    Replace timing belt and inspect water pump and auto-tensioner for D17A2 engine, timing belt, water pump D17A2 engine, K20A9 engine
    • Check water pump for signs of seal leakage
    • The timing belt should normally be replaced at the intervals shown in the Normal Conditions Schedule
    • Replace at 80,000 km (48,000 miles) or 5 years if you regularly drive your car in one or more of these conditions
      - In very high temperatures [over 43 °C (110 °F)]
      - In very low temperatures [under −29 °C (−20 °F)]
    Inspect and adjust drive belts for D17A2 engine Alternator belt, P/S pump belt D17A2 engine
    • Check for cracks and damage
    • Check deflection and tension
    Inspect drive belts for K20A9 engine
    Check for cracks and damage
    Inspect idle speed D17A2 engine, K20A9 engine
    Replace engine coolant D17A2 engine, K20A9 engine
    Use Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2
    At 200,000 km (120,000 miles) or 10 years, then every 100,000 km (60,000 miles) or 5 years
    Replace transmission fluid (MTF) D17A2 engine, K20A9 engine
    Use Honda MTF (Manual Transmission Fluid)
    Every 60,000 km (37,500 miles) or 4 years
    Inspect front and rear brakes
    • Check the brake pad and disc thickness. Check for damage or cracks
    • Check the calipers for damage, leaks, and tightness
    Every 10,000 km (6,250 miles) or 6 months
    Replace brake fluid
    • Use only DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid (We recommend Genuine Honda Brake Fluid)
    • Check that brake fluid level is between the upper and lower marks on the reservoir
    Every 3 years
    Check parking brake adjustment
    Check the parking brake operation
    Replace dust and pollen filter Every 30,000 km (18,750 miles) or 1 year
    Check lights alignment
    Check the position of the headlights
    Test drive (Check for noise, road stability, vibrations, and dashboard operations)
    Visually inspect the following items:
    • Check for correct installation and position, check for cracks, deterioration, rust, and leaks
    • Check tightness of screws, nuts, and joints. If necessary, retighten
    Tie-rod ends, steering gearbox, and boots
    • Check rack grease and steering linkage
    • Check the boot for damage and leaking grease
    Every 10,000 km (6,250 miles) or 6 months
    Suspension components
    • Check the bolts for tightness
    • Check all dust cover for deterioration and damage
    Driveshaft boots
    • Check the boot and boot band for cracks
    • Check rack grease

    Check the catalytic converter heat shield, exhaust pipe, and muffler for damage, leaks, and tightness
    Fuel lines and connections D17A2 engine, K20A9 engine
    • Check fuel lines for loose connections, cracks, and deterioration
    • Retighten loose connections and replace any damaged parts
    Tyre condition
    Check for pressure, puncture, or cuts and irregular thread wear
