Engine & Gearbox 2.2 CTDI Laboured/Juddering on start up - What's going wrong?

    Okay, here goes.


    I own a 2.2l CDTI Honda FR-V, it has 55k on the clock and has F6HAD's stage one, with EGR delete remap on it.

    A week ago on Monday I was caught out by a tidal road while on holiday in Devon, which saw me having to drive through about 150m of foot deep sea water. When we made it to the dry road the car juddered a little in first gear, but after a short time the car drove fine and we got home with no issues.


    On the Tuesday the car started and ran absolutely fine with no symptoms.


    On the Wednesday the car struggled to start. In the morning it seemed to labour, judder or misfire when starting up. Once started it ran just fine and we went out for the day. When we came to start it at around 5pm that same day it took several attempts and maybe 20 seconds to get started, with the same labouring, juddering or misfiring. Again, once it had started, it appeared to run just fine.


    Since then the car has continued to run fine, however the start up is not what it once was, still seeming to labour/judder/misfire before starting. It may be my imagination, but the engine also seems to stop a little rougher than before.


    I am concerned about myself or my wife getting stranded.


    In an attempt to see what I could figure out I have done the following.


    1.Looked at the air filter which shows no sign of water ingress.
    2.Had the battery checked by Kwik Fit and that was found to be fine.
    3.Started and stopped the engine a few dozen times. Whilst doing this the engine, on the odd few occasions, seemed to start and stop completely normally only for the fault to return soon after. Currently I cannot get the car to start normally no matter how many times I try.

    Hi and welcome mate , what you want is that file removed and your money returned plus your car out back to factory.

    Whilst I appreciate your opinion I can categorically state that my current issue has nothing to do with the remap I had done over a year ago. It is a tried and tested, genuine upgrade that is enjoyed by thousands.

    It doesn't matter to me. The car has been much improved and faultless for the year since he visited me.

    Do you have any other ideas what might be causing my issue? I have seen you being very helpful in other threads, hopefully you can be here too.

    genuinely I have given you the best advise in your circumstances.. it not what you want to hear as the file uploaded is untouchable in your eyes.

    I am open to new opinions (one of the reasons I posted this thread) but it is strange, and completely contradicts everything I have read up to this point.

    You do know F6HAD co-own that forum and you can't post anything but his services or say negative you will get a ban.

    Even if you get the required level of post to post in his heavily censored section you post will be trapped and if deemed defamatory it will be deleted with your marching orders.

    so you do you reckon you will get an objective view, all you get is go for it mate it the best thing than sliced bread.?

    Be that as it may, I've been happy with the car for the last year so have no reason to doubt the validity of the claims I had read before deciding to go ahead.

    I wonder what your answer to my problem would have been if I had left out the bit about the remap.

    You will need to get the car on a Honda HDS to see what the car is doing but F6HAD has a habit of deleting the DTC table so no error come up so you can't mither him. No error means no issue :Rolf: did he tell you that?

    So I will repeat get the car back to normal it complains you will get a DTC which can aid you to troubleshoot it. Your FR-V has a EGR delete which not a deleted the swirl will still work :Rolf: additionally on the car you be lucky to find any error codes sat in the ECU.
