Thanks for the reply the oil was changed recently along with a plug change.
I will check the level when I get a chance.
How would the oil level affect the cold running?

CR-V petrol if run low on oil and dirty oil have a tendency to jam the VTC actuators and they run off oil pressure.

If the VTC does not advance it will cause these symptoms.

    Thanks for the info .
    Will check oil level tomorrow.
It only started this after the oil and filter change.
Is there a way to check the VTC actuators?

Not without connecting the car upto HDS.

You could just take the VTC solenoid off and clean it. I think CJ did a thread on this, have a search of the forum.

What grade of oil did you use ?

Hi sorry did'nt get back buy I was away for a few days
The oil I used was Castrol GTX 15w40.

Fully synthetic oil for starters and not the hydrocracked oils, a few options

0w-30 good fuel efficiency but you have to regularly check the oil on your CR-V they have a habit of burning oil

5w-40 ok fuel efficiency oil consumption will be low.

lastly change the oil and oil filter on your car every six months or 6000 miles and the second change use a oil flusher as that engine will have a lot if curd which can potentially find it way back into the VTC actuator and it will test your patience. .
