    hi.

    I work for a Honda main dealer in the southwest and I have a problem that I hope I can sort.

    I have a customer who is in his late 70's who has a '91 J reg Concerto 1.6 16v auto with 21k on it. We have looked after it for over 10 years but sadly it failed its MOT on the ABS system, it needs a new pump and accumulator. The parts are no longer available from HUK.

    I have tried everything from ebay, partfinder, BBA reman, NOK and even Rover specialists but still no joy.

    The gent really wants to repair it and I have promised him that I would do all I could to find the parts.

    Does anyone have any ideas or contacts?

    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Thx Colin

    Hi Colin welcome to HondaKarma.

    Have you done basic checks, such as making sure that the handbrake switch works, the brake fluid is at correct level and that the level switch is working.

    Next thing would be to check all the wheel sensors and reluctor rings.

    Where is the ABS unit on these cars ?

    Have you tried ECU testing? I appreciate my car is much newer but they bent over backwards for me when I got a 66-1 code and couldn't do enough. They even turned the unit around in 24 hours after I took it to them.

    Their website does not show an ABS modulator for a 91 J reg car however there is no harm in asking them. They really are fantastic.

    @Monty820

    I've just called ECU Testing, unfortunately they won't be able to fix it as they can't get the new internals to repair the current units malfunctioning parts and could not advise me of who else would be able to fix it.

    Obviously, I don't know your clients index, but have you tried here?

    Honda CONCERTO ABS Module

    EDIT:
    In fact, I have found a quote of £150 for a refurbed one, but not sure if its for the correct car without the index.

    @balllus

    Its the ABS modulator/pump which he is looking for

    Hi, yes we have followed the diagnostics using The Honda ALB checker that needed a little dusting off!

    The system is not holding pressure and the pump is louder than the engine. The accumulator is made by NOK and seems to be a sealed unit.

    Both the pump and the accumulator sit under the battery tray on the N/S/F of the engine bay. will try and get photos added

    thx

    Picture 1 is the illusive accumulator, the other 2 show the beauty we are trying to save.

    Sadly not, that looks like a later ABS modulator, thx for reply though

    @Monty820, firstly the lengths you're going to for your customer are truly inspiring. I was recently sent through a large parts list from Couplers of St. Albans who used to run a Honda dealer in the 80s/90s, they have lots of old Honda stock still from that era which they're trying to find a home for. Although neither of the part numbers you've sent are on the list, I would recommend giving them a call just to be sure - your customer may find some other spare parts worth hanging onto. Ask for Andrew and just mention that Leo from HK sent you his way.

    There is one Concerto I can find in the UK currently being broken for parts:

    Another thought is are you aware of other models that share a similar ABS system design? Perhaps the entire system could be replaced with a compatible design from another Honda or Rover model.

    I've checked polish forum and there some1 said that it is possible to swap some parts from rover 216. I didn't check that info yet

    Credit where credit is due, going beyond the call of duty for this chap is very encouraging mostly on forums and elsewhere we get slagged off for what is now a very complex job, well done.
    I,m no Honda tech and do not know the MOT. Rules but is it possible to convert this car back to a none ABS car,after all the system is only a passive safety option and is not even in use 99 per cent of the time, all then you would need would be possibly pedal box ,servo, and master cylinder, just a thought.:boast:

    Theoretically possible, whether it's practically achievable is another matter. Your main issue would be removing the electrics.
    Also I'm not sure how it be seen in terms of the MOT rules.

    Update:

    a customer came in and commented on the "lovely Concerto by the workshop" and I told him the problems. he said he knew of one about to be broken and a few phone calls later and compatibility checks we have it in hand. both parts are costing £100 and we should have it back on the road this week.

    Thanks everyone for your assistance.
