So my old gaiter was worn out. Also the plastic ring that clips into the gear know was broken, so I thought I will take it out to see what it looks like.

Pretty simple task, but thought I'll do a small guide for it.

So here's the old gaiter and the plastic ring:

Once I've taken the old gaiter with the plastic trim out, I had to remove a few clips that hold the leather.

The new gaiter then goes over the plastic frame and into the trim. I've found it easier to actually fit it into the trim first, then adjust.
Instead of reusing the clips, which would have been quite difficult, I've decided to put a bit of super glue to hold the new leather.

Now for the plastic ring. It's held with a small cable tie. Cut it free and it's yours.

Now this goes into the new gaiter. The clips have to be on sides as this is the way they mount into the gear knob. Few adjustments were needed before I put a new cable tie on. I've prepared it first. Note how it's zipped, kind of the other way around. This will make it easier to hide.

Now a hole is needed in the new leather, so I've just used the screwdriver I had at hand. The cable tie then fits in nicely, and you just cut off the excess.

    In it goes ...

Once the knob is attached it looks much better and I really like it.

That really has turned out well.
The red stitching sets it off, and ties in with the mats !
I've saved the sellers details
    Good job @bijomaru :Hooray:

Same as the one I got for mine, I did the matching black leather/red stitched gear knob too. Look so much better than the rubber/vinyl one fitted as standard

I was looking at that gear knob but wasn't sure. Can you post a pic please?

How does it clip in to the white plastic ring? Or does it not need it?

It doesn't need it, the aftermarket one is secured with grub screws and finished with a chrome collar to hide the fittings. I fitted the gaiter with the top inside out, secure with a cable tie the turned the right way out if you understand what I mean.
Apologies for the poor picture, camera phone

Looks good. It seems to be slightly bigger. I take it these are universal and all have the same thread?

@bijomaru it fits on with a plastic collar over the gear lever and the gear knob secures with grub screws. It is a bit chunkier but I like that. I found the original a bit flimsy
