I'm in France with my I-CDTI Accord and no air-con. My garageman says it is the "commande"? (He is waiting for an estimate from the local Honda dealer) Is this the control unit? The compressor? Might I be able to get this part from the UK?

Bit vague I know, anybody help?

After further investigation it would appear to be the general unit that controls the GPS etc and a vague figure of between 1 and 3000 euros was quoted - not yet confirmed. Any info gratefully received, especially from people who have had similar problems. Good job it's not hot - yet!

they may mean the climate controll unit which is also a part of the headunit. the climate controll has the A/C button on the front to turn it on and off and it seems your garage has come to the conclusion it is not switching the A/C compressor relay. i have seen it before but it is not common. main faunts with accord A/C is low gas level and compressor failure. so long as the garage is a reputable one it is up to you to agree and sort out a new/seccond hand climate controll unit.

I assume your garager is not at Honda garage as your dealer is waiting for an estimation of 'the local Honda garage'?
Honestly, I'd visit a Honda dealer if you're not sure. And reading your post, you don't feel confident about the diagnostics done by the dealer you went to.

its a big bill and you need to be sure the diagnosis is spot on. a honda garage has the experiance and knowhow, being specialists in your vehicle

I go to an independent garage, a very reliable and trustworthy business. They took my car to the local Honda dealer who have been investigating the problem - it's their diagnosis not my garage man's. I should find out the worst tomorrow; can such parts be found second-hand? I'm rather expecting it will be cheaper to get the work done in the UK as we visit regularly. On another tack, can you get small A/C units that run off the cigarette lighter as a temporary measure?

very much doubt you can get a 12 A/C unit but let me know if you find one. the climate controll pannels are hard to come by seccond hand i believe but if you ring arround some large breakers yards you may be in luck somewhere in either the uk or europe. keep us posted.

Guys, I am having the same problem right now. Compressor failed. New item on order.

Honda do not have this item on stock anywhere in Europe. Estimates are late August.

BB how did your compressor fail did the dealer tell you the root cause and have you had the system re-gassed ever since new?

The compressor has fail safe not to burn if low gas is detected would be interesting to find out out what caused it?

First noticed it a week ago. Took it to the dealer ASAP. There was full pressure and no electrical problem (relays, fuses...). This tuesday the aircon specialist checked the system.

I got this car at 156 km and have driven over 110K km. No regasses* or repairs. I do not have root cause. Will look into that. My guess is just bad luck.

Obviously the compressor shouldn't fail. Or Honda would have more of these on stock. What's your educated guess?

Bizarre compressors made by sanden IIRC are normally bullet proof and you may have the unlucky 1 in a 1000 defect ratio for compressors.

Aircon specialist sourced a part somewhere in Europe, I don't know what, I don't know where. Estimate within two weeks. Will check to see if it is an original part.

Honda quoted me 6700 pounds (yes that's six thousand seven hundred) but their employee said he had never known one fail, so I will have to investigate further.

6700£ for what exactly? Are they throwing new engine in for that much money?Tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine.
On my I-CDTI air con compressor seized and i paid 1400£ for new one to Honda to fit it.

I rather assumed that this is for the GPS as well. It's a ridiculous amount of money. £1400 is also a very large sum, probably a third of the vehicle's value.

Ok then has the garage given you a list of parts required to fix this problem? lets see the part number so we can see what needs changing.

I personally think the diagnostics is all wrong and you need a second opinion NO way in hell can the entire system fail.

I just got our 2009 diesel Tourer back from the garage after they diagnosed a seized compressor on the AC, fortunately it and the clutch (I assume) are being replaced under the warranty but they are on back order until 2nd week of September......maybe this is going to become a trend in older Accords.

Well clutches can fail its not a compressor is it ? How often do you use the aircon ?
