had time to dig a little deeper into the Civic
headlamps out N/S bumper bracket and N/S wing
now we can see a shiney little car loosing its gleam as the rust and grot starts to appear

    new%20civic%20009_zpsinhyumrb.

best inner wing top strip if seen in a while

    new%20civic%20001_zpsp9u4uyne.

the enf of the inner wing strip 6 inches up to the bottom of the the screen/a post a favorite rust point not spaired here either water leaks into the car and rots panels out lower down behind the wing

    new%20civic%20003_zpsahsdc33t.

poor repair to the bumper bracket this leads to rust issues on the inner engine bay panel below the headlamp and to the front headlamp panel

    new%20civic%20005_zpsqwgqyv67. new%20civic%20005_zpsqwgqyv67. new%20civic%20008_zpsxskjfqou.

another rust spot is the lower front valance these rot out taking with it the lower section of the front wing

    new%20civic%20006_zps9zmybozg.

so as you can see a little work here needs addressing and im sure plenty more to come !!

had a few hours spare on the Civic today
first job to clean up the inner wing/wheel arch area

    new%20civic%20004_zpsjakbczrh.

this has now exposed the extent of the rot
below the headlamp on the insided of the headlamp panel ther is aan extra renforcing bracket for the bumper iron fitting
this had been repaired badly and rewelded to the headlamp panel and to the iinner wing panel and had rotted through to the engine bay
this i have removed exposing more rot damage to the headlamp panel and the inner wing panel in side the engine bay

    new%20civic%20003_zpslr6tuvoo. new%20civic%20002_zps7jgyvocp. new%20civic%20006_zpscaprzvzb.

fortunately i have a nos bumper renforcing bracket

    new%20civic%20007_zpsly3pom7j. new%20civic%20008_zpshbpsrbss.

looking at the headlamp panel i think this will need to be replaced again somewhere amongst my panel stock i think i have replacements for these too
i have cut out the rot from the inner wing this will be the first panel to be made and replaced before disturbing the head lightpanel

    new%20civic%20010_zpszeccqk9k. new%20civic%20011_zpsyf4cotjd.

    more soon

    just a quick update
had a good run at the car today
unfortunately the front headlamp panel was beyond saving so reluctantly i decided i have no option but to use one of my scarce nos panels
so i carefully unpicked all the welding joints to allm ajoining panels and removed the rusty item

    new%20civic%20002_zps1d2no125.

the hole i cut in the innerwing/engine bay was my next port of call . after making a cardboard template i then cut and shaped a new panel from a sheet of steel to fit exactly in the hole . most panel work i do the aim is to flush fit the repair and not over lap the metal
i then tack welded the panel in place so as i can make sure the headlamp panel fits flush to the new plate

    new%20civic%20009_zpsrfzwsmct.

once i was satisfided the fit was good the plate was welded in place with a continuous weld both sides of the plate so as when the welds are ground flush there is insured strength in the repair

    new%20civic%20013_zpspaefspsp.

    new%20civic%20017_zpsr9lhbza4.

    new%20civic%20010_zpsquptekek.

    new%20civic%20019_zpsfbxq3abf.

headlamp panel is now ready to be welded in place

    new%20civic%20018_zpsozdmt88y.

the next job before the headlamp panel is welded in is the front valance which has a bloody great hole in it . this has to be done first as i can get to the inside of it to get at all the rust and cut out the bad bits . the shape also has to be right as this is welded to the front head lamp panel

god I've got to do this to the other side too:eek:

    everyone bored yet?

Not at all mate. It's great to see the progress as it takes place, instead of basic before and after pictures.

spent a few more hours on the car over the last couple of days ,and made a bit more head way
front valance had rotted out wher it ajoins the bottom of the wing, unfortunately i don't have a replacement panel so time to make some repair panels keeping it to the original shape as best as i can

    new%20civic%20002_zpsuwrynckf.

    new%20civic%20003_zpsdzbkhh0d.

    new%20civic%20004_zpsrakbcryq.

    new%20civic%20006_zpssyc9s8qs.

    new%20civic%20007_zpsxulmo0xf.

now thats done time to align all the panels and weld every thing back in place.i elected spot welds along the original fitting

    new%20civic%20011_zpsu4cysnmk.

    new%20civic%20010_zps8amgrynv.

    new%20civic%20015_zpsl8exxovo.

    new%20civic%20012_zpsa4w8gmu5.

turned out ok just needs the welding tidying up sealing and priming

next jobs to tackle and finish this side is

hole just below the windscreen on the a post

    new%20civic%20016_zps1uxq71dv.

and repair panels to make for the bottom of the wing

    new%20civic%20017_zpsaxrdoltn.

    latest update
got a few hours on the car this weekend

dropped out the suspension leg so as to make room to prep the inner wing

    new%20civic%20021_zpsfu7fgktx.

then on to the gritty stuff ...that nasty hole just below the a post/windscreen
this has now grown in size and there are several inner panels that were rotten as well

    new%20civic%20001_zpsbvjb1auq. new%20civic%20003_zpswrmcxfr0.

part of the inner wing lip was hole and rusty although easy to cover up as not seen i decided to cut out the rot and make a small panel and weld it in

    new%20civic%20003_zpswrmcxfr0. new%20civic%20004_zpst9sn7gvt. new%20civic%20005_zpsr0nldyhz. new%20civic%20006_zpspimwqq9z.

after repairing the inner panels on the main hole i made the final panel to finish the job

    new%20civic%20013%20-%20Copy_zpsfd1nzrzf. new%20civic%20012_zpseay5sjqu. new%20civic%20014_zpsgflxvlrk. new%20civic%20016_zpspoazkexb. new%20civic%20017_zpsucukxsus. new%20civic%20019_zpskflxssah.

just the wing repairs to go then thats ALL the welding for that side of the front of the car
