    Hi,

Is it risky to change the automatic transmission fluid change (with Honda dealer)?

I have a one year warranty with my FR-V covering up to 2K of repairs and I wondered if its a good time to change the transmission fluid once for all? My car is 2007 FR-V 1.8 with 53K miles on the clock....

    I don't want a failing gearbox etc....

    spoke to a gearbox specialist.

He said in general honda don't need to change the fluid as there is an internal filter. However he said to check on the fluid levels from time to time and you are ok.

I think that sounds about right for an R-series engined car with autobox. For the K Series engined Honda's, there is a external ATF filter and ATF fluid replacement interval is stated as being 75K miles.

You need to change the fluid but AT tranny boxes have loads of large magnets internally and a oil filter mesh. But regular changes will ensure sweet changes and clutches not sticking.
As speedy has stated Accord also have a external filter plus the above.
