    Hello Folks,

This morning I visited Chris who owns and runs Phoenix Close (Independent Honda Specialist) at Heywood, Manchester. I took my Tourer to have the brake and clutch fluids changed. Its a 7 year old car with 50k miles and full Honda Main Detaler Service History from new - from the service invoices with every single thing itemised I can see these fluids have never been changed ... oh dear! :Aghast: I bought the car a couple of months ago and have had a seized brake caliper so it was time for some new brake fluid!

And oh boy were those brake + clutch fluids ready for changing! One of the rear brake lines was quite dirty and the clutch fluid was really yukky! I even took some pictures whilst my car was up on the lift - got to be one of the tidiest garages I've ever visited!

Chris made it all look so effortless and did a fantastic job.

His place is probably less than a mile from J19 of the M62 and very easy to find. I travelled from Huddersfield and he was totally accomodating - he worked on my car as soon as I got there - its not one of those places where you have to drop your car off at 8.30am and then they don't get round to working on it until the end of the day! So there's no hanging around Chris will work on your car whilst you wait and of course you get to chat to an expert about your car whilst he works on it.

I can 100% recommend Chris not only for his work but also for his enthusiasm to the Honda marque. I shall definately be back there for the next major service in about 4k miles.

Good luck Chris and a big thumbs up! Cheers .... Jayne

Chris any chance of looking at this old fluid? Jayne I won't think the fluid in your Tourer would be original but the car would been given a top up of 500ml of brake fluid in the major services, which is not sufficient for a proper brake fluid flush and remove all the contaminated brake fluid.

I am surprised when the caliper was changed the technician did notice this when the hose pipe was disconnected?

    Hi Ichiban,

Thanks for your interest. The discoloured brake fluid came out of the line line to the drivers rear whilst the seized caliper was on the passenger rear. I have Honda main dealer invoices for every service on the car with every single thing itemised. Only one invoice shows an entry for 'Brake fluid' - that's for £5.90 and no labour charge so that suggests just a top up rather than a drain and flush through. That was on 05/04/2011 at 42k miles (car is now at 51k). When I had the caliper changed on the passenger side the brake fluid probably looked ok - when Chris was draining it today it did have plenty of air bubbles in it though.

    Cheers ..... Jayne

I think its time Honda did address this break fluid farce, every two years the fluid should be completely changed with one litre not this top up..

The problem is the customer is not willing to foot the bill for extra brake fluid and Honda is trying to extend the service intervals to reduce total cost of ownership.

its a catch 22 situation, BTW I do it yearly for perfect brakes.

Other things in the Euro Schedule are suspect as well such as gearbox oil change at 75k & coolant at 10 years when 5 is specified in the US...

...better to follow the Worldwide Schedule in the Owners Handbook.

By the way I should have mentioned ... when it comes to paying the bill at the end of a visit to see Chris at Phoenix Close , Heywood, Manchester you will NOT need to sit down and mop your sweaty brow .... Chris is Extremely sensible with his prices - so sensible in fact that it paying for his work was a pleasurable experience

He's still working on his website but its looking pretty good so far - check it out here ..... Phoenix Close Honda Specialists | Based in Heywood, Manchester

A good write up Jayne. Well done to Phoenix Close. This could be a location for a future meet. Get some members who need brake work doing and make a day out of it.
    (Thoughts for the future CJ)

By the way all Yorkshire/Northern members we are looking to have a meet in the near future so if you are interested in coming along to put faces to names then come along.

    Hi MickyB

Many thanks for your reply to my write up on Chris at Pheonix Close - my visit was certainly time well spent - its a 60 mile round trip for me from south of Huddersfield but most of it is a nice cruise along the M62.

Yes that's a good idea about the Yorkshire meet up - I've seen your thread on the Meetings/Events forum so have replied there with a few ideas. There are some good venues round abouts with big car parks and refreshment facilities - tea shop .... YEAH!

    Bye 4 now
