Quick question for you technical minded people, I have a Samsung home cinema system and recently it struggles to play my blu-ray disks but will play DVDs fine, is there a different laser for each disc type? and could I just need to clean the blu-ray laser?

Has this player got the blue ray symbol ? It could be its only a traditional DVD player. have you got the model number so we can look up the specs of it?

Yes there are two heads. You might as well try cleaning it as a replacement player is probably your next step. New players are cheap as chips from richer sounds and probably works out cheaper than repairing it.

    Thanks for the replies fellas.

Yes it is Blu-ray with 3D etc, sorry I should have said it used to play the Blu-rays fine until recently

I'll give cleaning it a go, could do without having to buy another unit.

Good thinking, didn't even cross my mind about updates.

I'd say that's the best first course of action as I've fixed a fair few drives over the years that just had a dusty laser.

Firmware updates are a good shout too :Drinks:

Just thought I'd up date this, finally tried a lens cleaner at the weekend and it was still the same, so today I managed to find a spare Ethernet cable, hooked it up, downloaded the latest software and bingo, one working blu-ray player

    Only just seen this @Phil1978
The newer blu-ray discs don't always play on older players unless the firmware is updated.
This may have been the issue ?

    Glad you're sorted

Now after asking the question and finally sorting it today I've remembered my PS3 telling me this years ago :Foolish:

No harm done, and you're up and running.
I wish my memory was like it used to be... or even half of what it was
