Off-Topic BMW design slackers?

I was at a car show with my Ford club at the weekend and had the misfortune to be positioned next to the BMW appreciation society.

Whilst sat there sheltering from the rain I noticed the tailgate closure of a M5 estate. It seems to me that after the closing motors bring the tailgate down to around 70 degrees gravity finishes the rest of the job. See what you think:

I just think it's real lazy design and it would really bug me if I was in the position to spend that much money on a car.

I dunno bud, as someone still using the traditional methods of tailgate operation it doesn't look too terrible!

The whole engine failure at 36K would be a concern though...

Did the Ford stand have any motorised tailgates? Or where they broken? :bleh:

Typical BMW saving money and ripping of the customers.

This particular Ford stand won second place in best club stand.

God forbid a small child is there whilst the tailgate is closing gravity will certainly whack the ***** out of the young one.

BMW cutting corners? Never. They are the pinnacle of engineering success apparently. Still waiting to see some of this market leading success and suspect it will never arrive

You don't need to see it, just believe what you are told "they are the best"

To be fair that generation 5 series is quite old now so old tech, and perhaps its more efficient for gravity to finish the job off?
