I have the following DTC from HDS software scanner. Any idea what it is and what problem it causes? Thanks

B1B09 steering angle sensor failure information from VSA modulator control unit

DTC store unit: Active Cornering light unit

    DTC type: signal error

    Possible failures:
Steering angle sensor harness open or short
    Steering angle sensor failure
    Combined Meter unit failure
    VSA ECU failure
    MVCS ECU failure.

Ok is that DTC erasable? if it is erasable I would clear it and observer over a week. if it comes back or does not erase then you have a issue.

DTC are as the name suggest "Diagnostic troubleshooting code" they are not set in stone they are suggestions in narrowing down the fault. if one of parameters could not communicate it will record the DTC but if the comms was re-established it will still hold the code and will not erase on its on.

My advise to any one when reading DTC's on Honda cars don't assume all those things have failed with all the possible failures as the cause they are just guidelines to follow.

Thanks for the reply. I rather not erase the DTC myself as it is a proof of malfanction or wrong calibration. I asked the Honda engineer and he said something about the VSA reprogramming after updating the VSA module which needed a steering angle calibration. Probably something went wrong.

On wednesday I will have more info in regards to this matter.

    Cheers

VSA update 3 months ago if I remember well but this is the first time I connected it to a diagnostic scanner.

So you don't have any VSA lights on, on the dash ?

If not then I would just clear the faults. If they go away and don't come back problem sorted.

If they do come back, take it to Honda.

VSA light is off. Because I also have a break squealing noise when braking I will be visiting Honda anyway on Wednesday.

OK, so you may as well show them what you have found, so no need to clear the faults.

I though that it might be useful.
    Honda procedure:
    1. Erase DTC code B1B09
    2. Recalibration of Steering wheel.
