Right guys as some know I've recently imported a euro r.
It's still with Torque GT awaiting my custom clearance letter.

The problem is I want to register my car onto my private reg. Darren from gt said this is fine they just need my reg certificate which they have and a valid insurance certificate with the reg on. This is my problem I can't get insured. I've tried my current insurer, (prestige keep moving) and just tried direct line. Direct line said they can't insure me as their computer! Doesn't have Euro r as an option. I basically had an Argument with him because even though he had the chassis number he still couldn't do it. Told me to ring honda and ask them what the car is called in the uk.. to which I said it's a euro r.
So basically I'm Ringing a human telling him everything he needs to to quote me yet a computer can't do it. Stupid me for thinking they are there to insure you on what ever you have/want that's what I'm. Paying for. Not to insure on whats bloody popular! :brickwall:

So I ask how did you guys get around this. Who are you using to Insure your euro Rs ?

    Thanks in advance

The mainstream ones won't, or are unlikely, to insure an imported car, you will likely have to go to a specialist company.

I use Adrian Flux, we do advertise for them on the forum, but I have used them for years. However, they also specialise in imports - give them a call.

Import Car Insurance | Imported Car Insurance | Adrian Flux

They will be others out there, but as mentioned, I have used them for a good while now and am happy with them.

Ho nighthawk thanks for the reply. The prestige keep moving are a specialist lol but I won't be staying with them again.

Direct line was advised by torque gt lol.

I'll try fluxes hopefully they can take what I say over what a piece of machinary says.

Do you have a euro r

Mate, the Euro-R is a 2.0 7th Generation Accord, the CL7 - there's thousands in the UK, and an easy few hundred here in the club. You may have a Euro-R but a 2 litre Accord of your year is already on all insurance databases and the criteria matches. Go on any insurance comparison site, enter your reg, it won't find your car and ask you to select it from a list. Select Honda, Accord, your year, and the 2 litre model.

Technically they're basing that on the base spec K20A6 Accord, however the details you've provided including engine volume are all correct, as long as you declare when asked on the quote that it is imported, I can't see you having done anything wrong - you've answered every detail correctly.

@Nighthawk is actually quite knowledgeable on these things and might correct me here, but personally that seems the simple solution.

Prestige where a provider here as well for along time but we made a staff decision to remove them for reasons I won't get into, if you do ring Adrian Flux, remember to tell them you're a member of the forum.

Well this is what I thought. I never thought it would be this hard lol.
I'm going to ring flux first thing in the morning.

I'm not happy with prestige, been with them 2 years. But will not be with any longer.

With basing the quote on a standard model what happens if I were involved in a crash, and then the insurance or police see, that I have a recaro seats and lip kits, etc that is not on that standard model that my insurance was based on?
    Forgive my stupidity lol

As long as the car is insured and is on the road through all the right channels which it will be coming through Torque GT, then legally you are covered. Disclose all mods so that you don't give the insurance company an excuse to back out of paying out on you if the worst does happen. Unless you have a serious crash and injure or kill someone, or drive like a muppet and get sent to court over it, the police arent going to look any further other than you are legally on the road and insured. If you do drive like a muppet, injure or kill someone, then being insured legally is still just fine, but if any mods which are undeclared could have resulted in preventing that crash, then it may be an issue, this is the same regardless of being an import or a native vehicle. So, declare everything, as long as you are insured as an import vehicle, then you will be fine. @DeviateDefiant insurance company is going to love him with his list of mods....

If that makes sense, early morning fingers. I know what I mean

i disagree with all of the above...insuring the euro R as a k20a6..not clever

im with sky insurance..and expect your insure to double.or more.lol

im the same age as you and pay £850 with 8years ncb and no points

they will quote you calling the car a Type-R,as that is the closest uk spec car.but they note down thats its a JDM euro R

    my v5 says CL7 euro R
    engine k20A

also sky insurance are very good price wish when it comes to mods.IIRC a stock CL7 was £750 for me to insure so extra £100 for all mods is nothing.i need to renew in a couple of moths so i hope now im 30 it will come down a bit

Most imports, whether or not they share parts in common with native cars, are normally more to insure due to part replacement and the subsequent cost to the insurer. Imports are normally different specs (engine performance, suspension set up etc) as well to native cars which heightens the risk even higher.

I do agree with @ukcl9 and would tell them the car you have and let them pick the best option out of their systems rather than you telling them what car it is equivalent to. That way, if you ever need to use their services, they won't look at the car and say "ahh well, you told us it was this, our records show it should be this". As long as its legally insured, the police will be happy

Right sorry for the late reply folk, been busy today.

so i filled in a online quote form for adrian flux lat night to save time on the phone today. they have insured me :jumpy::gohonda:
it was done on a accord 2.0 vote se i believe. but they know it is a imported euro r. they had the chassis number and all the details.
all modifications declared of course. fully comp they quoted me £367 annual premium which with tax and admin fees etc came to a total of £417 which is Great.

i can now send my insurance certificate with my private reg on, to Torgue Gt. hopefully i will have my car by the 17th as I'm going away for a week that night. fingers crossed.

Thank you all for the help guys you've been awesome :Yahoo:
