If anybody on here is a regular cyclist, I'd be interested in knowing something...

Over the past 2-3 years, our local authority has spent a lot of time (and I assume money) putting in a network of cycle paths. All are signposted, very wide, and newly surfaced.

What I don't understand, is why the majority of cyclists I see still insist on riding on the road, usually right next to the cycle way.

Am I missing something, as surely the road is much more dangerous and much less well surfaced, especially by the kerbside.

Same problem round here. A perfect cycle path alongside the road and certain idiots insist on using the road, normally at night in black Lycra.
    Oh and with no lights.
They should have to pay road tax.

    I love them really.........nah I don't!!!

Its because they're in the habit of using the road and peoples natural lemming tendency makes habits hard to break.

  4. I'd imagine it's because most cycle lanes have breaks in them, junctions etc. Whereas the flow of the road doesn't require the rider to stop and then build up their momentum again.

    Thats me anyway,
