    Evening all,

I've been lurking for a while, last week I finally got my hands on a decent priced Accord Type-S. 53 Plate, 2.4 Manual, Leather/Tinted Glass and a few other extras. 84,000 on the clock but definitely not looked after well at all. She was rear ended back in '06, impact bar was never replaced, but the bumper/boot were replaced/resprayed - not obvious to the eye at all. Obligatory pic:

    pmBrfVf.

Just finished servicing today, she's breathing easy with some fresh oil (it was damn gunky), filters, sparks ET cetera. She likes to be pushed, but perhaps suffers a bit in the low revs - need to kick her a bit hard in 1st to get the decent pick up going from there on.

Expect me to be kicking around from here on, and probably picking a few brains too! Glad to join the community.

    Welcome to AOC my friend.

    She looks really good.

You have Sat Nav I thought that was only found on the Exec models not Type-S ?

Do you have full or part leather ?

You have now? I'm a Frontend Developer / Designer by trade :Hey:

It's a strange one, there's a lot of things about the car that don't make sense to me. The boot I assume was replaced or stripped of badges, no Accord/S emblem and it was changed by the DVLA a few years back on the MOT certs from HONDA / ACCORD TYPE-S to HONDA / ACCORD (reg change too) however other documents like insurance and V5 state otherwise. The interior is definitely pre-facelift, no gunstyle gear knob/dash/steering wheel. There's been extensive work done from I assume it's impact (and Cat D) in 2006.

I'm not sure if the Sat Nav is from standard or an extra but it's definitely there. Full leather, electric seats etc. Black carpeting as opposed to purple.

Yes man, I wonder if it's past the legal limit because god are junctions a bugger in bad light

...and I bet it's less of a bugger than mine with eating discs :Rolf:

    Thanks for the welcome all.

I'm currently driving around in a Civic I-DTEC and I can tell you that my Accord 2.4 cruises around a lot more easily than the I-DTEC. Going down a dual carriage way doing 50-60 you keep needing to drop down to 5th just to get it move normally. Touch the pedal at 60mph in 6th in the 2.4 and it'll shift pretty respectfully.

Obviously with any VTEC engine to get the most out of it you need to be high up there in the top band. But the torque curve on the 2.4s is not bad at all.

Long as I hit high revs in 1st, I seem to be able to get fair pick-up off the line, just wouldn't do it from a cold start. I guess it's one small thing that bugs me about the car.

The funny thing is with my Accord, if I'm cruising at that speed in 6th I don't get much pick-up at all with my foot down. Infact, I'd downshift into 4th to get it. I'd assumed until now that 6th was a turnover/economy gear. I should probably go and look at the performance curves to figure how to best utilise the engine.

Thank you mate, I'm going to actual finish getting my site done at some point. I get bogged down with client work far too often!

Well I had the Accord on the ramps today to sort out some minor tracking issues, laser alignment showed that only the rears were out of balance (a fraction). After they were adjusted I checked my tyre pressures, 31 and 28 on the back, not too bad. 41 and 39 on the front, what the hell. Anyway, stuck them at 32 all around (went by the door card for now).

Steering now rattles side to side if I'm not holding the wheel and the car pulls worse to the side than before. I watched my guy do the alignment, I know he was about as spot on with it as possible (though I'm pretty confident he should have let me sort tyre pressures before doing the aligning).

Where does this leave me? I mean, I doubt wheel balancing is going to be the issue with the amount of sideways pull I'm getting at the moment. Steering rack? As much as I'll get blasted for mentioning the place, think I'll drag it down to Kwik-Fit tomorrow, I've got a family friend there who knows his stuff well enough.

Got a couple of hundred miles to do in the evening!

    I'm confused by your statement
Just for clarity I'll explain the terms.

Wheel balance is the process of ensuring that the spinning wheel is balanced, this is done with the wheel off the car and put on a wheel balance machine. The wheel is spun round and the machine works out where to attach weights to make the wheel balanced so that it doesn't wobble when spinning.

Wheel alignment is what the laser tracking does, it shows the camber and castor of the suspension.

If the steering is now rattling side to side then that suggests that the tracking was not done correctly.

I would go back to the same place and ask them to recheck.

On the quoted above, I meant to state they were out of 'alignment' as opposed to 'balance'. It was late :Innocent:

I've had the wheels all balanced today, the 2 back were a fair bit out, the front passenger side a small amount. There's slight uneven wear on the back two as well, sitting at just over 3mm pretty much throughout. I'm still getting the pull to the side and shake in the steering wheel. I'm going to just get the tracking re-checked when I'm back up home (other side of the country on a family visit atm). If I can bare with it, I'll wait till I get to replace the tyres all round. Probably cost £100 a pop I'm guessing.

Well i have the same issue and from what I am reading we are not alone although yes most have no issues with their Type-S 2.4 I have read a few people and in a few places with the same sort of issue. I got mine Hunter aligned and the castor on the front was quite a way out. So......issue with suspension on these models? I'm not sure. Mine tramlines a lot so I need to find out the suspension issue is and I'm also guessing part of my issue is cheap tyres the previous owner put on with not a strong enough sidewall for these 17 inch tyres. Im going to take mine to some real suspension specialists soon ones that build them for race cars and see what they find. I will report back when I finally get to the bottom of all this

I too had it pointed out to me that I may be looking at a suspension issue. Considering I need new tyres before long, and I've got warping on the current rears - I'll probably go for a new set of tyres, get them rebalanced/tracked and go from there. Hopefully that resolves the problem somewhat, it's bareable for now.

Please do keep me posted man, I'm hoping there's not going to be any major work involved in getting the car to go in a straight line
