Sad to see that they are stop making VCRs. Our house was the first in the street to get one in the early 80s and I remember how amazed people were. Then stereo VCR came out and I paid £650 for one and people said I was mad, it's now the norm as everything is in stereo.

The technology has endured amazingly well. We still have a couple of VHS recorders at home, and I really need to convert a fair few video tapes (our wedding, chiefly!) to digital media while I still can...

I didn't know they still made them. but yeah VCR was like a revelation. I always heard stories from my parents on how before them, movies used to come on two to three reels which had to manually wound back to start after watching or if the previous renter hadn't done it, part 2 and 3 were done while 1st part was being played.

What I didn't get was people who kept buying VCPs when VCRs were available

Not so long ago my wife wanted to watch the VHS recording of our wedding, I said we do have a VCR in the loft as well as the wedding tapes but I'm too scared of playing the tape through the VCR now with it being dormant for so long, it'll probably chew up all the tape LOL.

If the tapes have been in the loft, the high temperatures could have degraded the quality of the recordings. I keep all of mine in a cool, dry place.

We had a Sony Betamax a million time better but VHS won the tape wars.

Sony didn't lose the format wars on Blu-Ray versus HD DVD thou.
