    Hi Guys

No sure if this is the right place to post but seems most on here are very knowledgeable.
Anybody recommend any European breakdown insurance without being fleeced! I am being quoted between £70 and £100 for a weeks cover yet I only pay £80 for the whole years cover in the UK.

    Thanks
    Tony

Nice one cheers but they don't accept cars that are 11 years old for temporary cover :-( . Found the coop do though, £28 for 10 days euro cover. sorted .
    Thanks, Tony

Is European cover included in that £70?
If so I'll look you up before my next Euro trip.

Yes that includes 60 days of cover in most European countries.

I'm with Adrian Flux for my insurance and have been for about 10yrs now... When I used to have a modified and uprated sports car I needed specialist insurance, and they offered full breakdown cover including Europe for £50 a year. All you had to do was notify them when you were going abroad and what countries you were going through. I think it was cover for a max 90 days per year... But not had it for a few years now as I was getting cover paid for by the folks as a birthday present (Because I do so much running around for my disabled dad)

As I needed UK breakdown cover anyway, it made sense to go with it... especially as I wouldn't need to purchase extra breakdown cover when we went to the Nurburgring.

Never actually used it in Europe... but check before you buy... a friend got caught out when his cover (not sure who with) turned round and said the cost of bringing the car home wasn't economical due to the value and would only take it to a nearest garage for repairs. He had to cut his holiday short, get him the wife and kids home to Cornwall and then arrange to go back out to the South of France to pick up his car when it was repaired... He ended up almost 2 grand out of pocket as a result. So make sure they will bring you all the way home regardless of the value of the car.

Some guys we met at the nurburgring had no cover at all... and one them had a Porsche that broke down. They arranged for cover to get them back to Dunkirk, then towed the car onto the ferry... and they got breakdown cover to pick them up when back in the UK

Adrian flux, Do you offer a service to transport the car to any destination for the onward journey? I am with Gem motoring assist and although they don't offer European cover for £89 I get personal cover in any vehicle with guaranteed travel to any destination in the UK in the event of a breakdown, can you match this?

As long as your car is well maintained it should be fine. The only thing that let me down was the damn sat nav. After 3 hours and a long tunnel in Paris the system crashed and wouldn't reboot. It struggled to find the cars position and jus refused to work, luckily I had an old tomtom to save the day. Seems fine now though but won't be relying to much on it again. After all it is 11 years old.

I just got insurance with co-OP/axa for our short trip, only £27 for 3-5 days.
Will probably just buy yearly cover when I reinsure with flux next year
