Having owned my FR-V for a few weeks I would like to change all the fluids and would be grateful for some help with the following.
    1. How much brake fluid, coolant, engine oil and auto gearbox fluid is required for a change?
    2. What grade and brand of engine oil is recommended? Honda seem to recommended using anything from 0w-20 to 10w-40 in the manual.
    3. Is it best to stick with genuine Honda for the coolant and brake fluid?
    4. Is the back wiper a standard 11" (not curved)?
    5. How much petrol is in reserve?
    6. Does auto air refresh light permanently stay on? Mine is always on green unless I change to recirculated air.

    Thank you in advance.

    1) Brake fluid, generally on Hondas 2 litres is plenty for a full flush.
    R18 Engine Oil capacity
    • At Oil Change: 3.5 Liters
    • At Oil Change including Filter: 3.7 Liters
    • After Engine Overhaul: 4.5 Liters
Auto gearbox I would say 2 litres is enough but you ideally need to measure how much comes out and fill to the correct level when engine is hot.
Reason being is you don't really know how much oil will come out, a lot stays in the gearbox itself.

    2) I would go with 0w-20 personally

    3) Again personally speaking, yes I would stick to original fluids, you can't go wrong that way

    4) Yes rear wiper is standard 11"

    5) Pass, I'll try and find out

    6) Pass, sorry I don't know

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Would I have any issues running it with 5w-30 Castrol Magnatec in?

If I was to buy 4l of gearbox oil would it be ok to use again in a few years when I change the oil again?

    NGK or Honda spark plugs?

No you won't but 0w20 is meant to better for the engine and give back better MPG.

Fully synthetic gearbox oil will be fine in unopened bottles for a couple of years.

The Honda ones will be NGK, so just look for best price (check club sponsor @Holdcroft Honda). If it's got Iridium plugs, they may not need changing yet.

The Auto light for the climate control allows the car to adjust everything to keep you as comfortable as possible and at the temperature you have it set at. For example sun coming through windscreen will make face vents blow etc.

I think that the air con light stays geen when left on auto. It will occasionally turn orange itself when it switches to recirculate in hot conditions etc.

I use 0w30 Castrol Edge in my diesel.

    image.

It's the light on the button directly beneath the mode button. It's always lit green even if fans are off etc.

This place is doing the genuine Honda 0w20 for £20 +del for 4 litres. Has anyone ever ordered anything from them?

That's fine. It's kinda of a redundant light really. It just means air is coming from the outside (which is what you want anyway vast majority of the time) rather than being recirculated.

I believe on a flush it's stated to be 4.4 litres. I'll try and confirm this.

Sorry, but I'm not doing any of the work. I always supply the parts for any work my local mechanic does.

Does the auto transmission have a filter and will it need to be changed with the fluid change?

The car is on 85k and possible its first transmission fluid change.

Yes it does, if you look down the bottom of the radiator you should see it just there.

I'd definitely recommend doing your transmission fluid at that mileage mate.

I'll be getting a full service inc transmission fluid done in two weeks. Just need to order the bits in and wasn't sure about the transmission filter.

I would have got it done sooner but it's been a bit hectic with work and fasting.

Just under a week to go. The mechanics on reduced hours too.

Does the petrol FR-V have a fuel filter?
I can only find info on the diesels.
If so, when does this need replacing?
Does anyone have a part number?
