anyone knows any nice area within 2 - 2.5 hours drive away from London where I can go on a short break with my wife and little one.

Just looking for a nice relaxing time out not really interested in doing activity. Just a nice drive and maybe lake or national park sort of place where we can go for a short walk.

I was looking at Cotswold, Canterbury and maybe Eastbourne but I am open to other ideas as I have always gone up to Yorkshire, Wales etc but with the baby don't want to travel too far out.

Eastbourne sounds best to me, beaches and walks along beachy-head and further inland, East Sussex is a nice area IMO (there are quite a few mobile phone installations in that area from 15 years ago because of me LOL, you get to know an area very well when looking for suitable locations, done parts of Austria and Holland too)

If I had the money, that area is where I'd go and live permanently.

I actually have booked one night on a beach front hotel in Eastbourne but I'm thinking of finding another place along the way to stay the night before. Any particular recommendations maybe in High Weld?

I can't recommend anywhere (not been around Hastings & Kent area in 15 years) but I doubt if you can go wrong. Hopefully someone else on HK might know the area more recently.

Try Durdle door, they have mobile homes you can rent out and its a nice scenic place with good driving roads, also not massively far from New Forest national park which can visit along the way too. Around 2.5-3 hour drive.

a lttle more travelling time but i recommend the isle of wight
relatively straight forward journey to the port a ferry ride to the island
you can visit the jurrasic beaches and cliffs, home of my ancestors
visit the famous needles and lighthouse , you can see the whole island in a couple of days
    lovely veiws and country side
    a real adventure

I second the Isle of Wight. Beautiful part of the UK. The beach at Sandown/Shanklin, Ventnor and Freshwater Bay are loveley and sandy. Trouble is, if taking the car across, the Ferry costs are high. Easier to get the foot passenger Catamaran from Portsmouth Harbour. Much cheaper and takes about 15 mins. Brighton and Hastings are fun, but busy, and the beaches are pebble, not sand

Thanks guys, some really fantastic suggestions which I have actually marked in my custom maps as places to visit.
Tried to figure out a plan for Isle of Wight but this being very last minute (going out Sunday) I had to give up as ferry cost + hotel and the fact that its 9 degrees throughout. Spending a night in Canterbury as we always fancied the place and then off to Eastbourne and will go Sheffield park and gardens along the way. Hopefully going on weekdays would mean slightly less busy ..

Many thanks again :Niceone: Next time Isle of Wight as I would love to go on the ferry!

    Sorry for late reply

Try to drive through the royal tunbridge wells country side, it is really beautiful.
You can take the back roads instead of going on M25 to go from Kent to Sussex.

Canterbury is good indeed  plenty of places to see and eat.

Thanks @exec. I took it with an iPhone and 'VSCO Cam' app to edit. It is my go-to app for photo editing (Android / iPhone). You can use filters but it also allows you to change various settings on your own so that is what I did.
