Hello, just had a bad experience with a car i bought recently.

Was driving today and i started hearing a small clicking sound when i was accelerating, the sound got louder and louder and it turned in to a knocking sound which was very loud and eventually the car lost power when i stopped at traffic lights. Called the AA they finally came after 1 hour and 20 minutes and just got it recovered to my house and they said just a noises from the engine, won't start.

Any one have any ideas :Frown:

    Have you checked oil level?
I'm wondering if you're oil pump chain has gone? Would explain the noise and gradual loss of power.

I just hope it not the timing chain /oil pump chain  your Honda ownership days will soon be numbered if it is.

What engine are we talking about here ?

Other than whats been suggested already it's difficult to diagnose such issues from a forum.

May I suggest you make a youtube video of the engine running, perhaps zoom into the area where you think the noise is coming from.
Only do this if you feel confortable running the engine for a few minutes. You don't really want to inflict more damage on the engine, then again.. things probably can't get much worse.

It's a 2.2 exec 53 plate diesel 95k on clock has had almost full Honda service history. Had a cam chain put in and the parts surrounding that (was going through the receipt this morning).

I'll have a look later when i'm at home, last i remember the sound was coming from the engine possibly more towards the driver side it was fairly loud and consistent knocking. When it died out i couldn't start it again the AA guy had to jump start it because the battery went but he got it running again and said he can't fix it will have to recover to my destination.

I had what I thought was a knocking sound coming from my 7th Generation when I owned it and a loss of power, this was after I had got the exhaust manifold replaced under the extended warranty, turned out it was just the seal on one of the injectors had went and the knocking sound was actually air escaping.

Dunno if this is of any help to you

This would fit the symptoms of the problem. Maybe one the injector seals has let go. It would be a lot cheaper.

I havn't had a chance to actually record the sound but it's 98% like the same sound on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ2DShsf5m It sounded like that before it died. A strange thing was my battery also died after to point where the hazard lights stopped working properly.

Then I am afraid that is something terminal, the list of parts you mentioned are they on a bill or a cut copy from somewhere from here or elsewhere?

Bud they guy who fitted it did he have honda diesel experience? not to say he can't fix other car..but the honda diesel is a delicate car when it come to repairs and these parts can be easily fitted incorrectly which negates the new part.

If the fitter doesnt gave honda experience or access to the honda workshop manual then you are playing with fire.

I must admit I wondered this, if he doesn't know the proper procedures anything could have happened.

Could may well be. I should be taking it to the nearest honda specialist tomorrow morning which is ds-autoservices in Shipley and see what they have to say.
