Got another service due soon and I'm tempted to go for a main dealer service at £175 - I usually go to a trusted local garage who charge £120 and use Honda branded 0w30 oil.

2 reasons for this. Firstly, the main dealer fixed my cracked exhaust manifold under warranty even although my car was older than the 7 year parameter - so I feel it's only right and proper to give them some business. Secondly, the 35 point check included in the price.

And that brings me to my question: Is the 35 point check worth paying an extra £55 for?

I'm thinking it probably is but I'd be grateful for other opinions.

I would say yes it is worth it . A independent garages have no clue how Honda cars work and access to information a Honda dealer has not to mention Honda training and experience.
Anyone can hold a spanner and call themselves a specialist or a doughnut, what you get with Honda no quibbles if something goes wrong. All get with you Independence garages are sloppy shoulder who would say you should have gone to Honda.
Honda does software updates if any as FOC as you indy forget it what is that?

Good point about the software updates etc. Didn't think of that.

I'm not for a second dismissing the skills and training of Honda technicians. I'm more suggesting that a competent mechanic should be able to perform an oil and filter change using genuine parts to a similar standard.

Even you can do oil changes if you wanted to, it when anything beyond that skill set where indy struggle dude, Honda will give a loaner car too  indy will point you there is the bus stop mate.

Some Honda dealers give you free AA road side assistance too bundled within the service worth 135 quid. for free.

I recently took out the 3 year service plan . costs me about 19 quid a month but that's the next 3 sevices , 3 MOT's and the breakdown cover.

As you can probably tell I've never used a main dealer for servicing - been going to the same mechanic for nearly 20 years.

Any time I have visited my local Honda main dealer I've been impressed with their service - and the patience of the sales staff recently who let me 2 young kids climb all over every car in the showroom while we were waiting.

For an extra £55 I think going with the dealer is a no brainer.

I've got my Civic booked in next week! For the checks its worth it!, plus the car dealer included a warranty with my car when I bought it in May, so anything serious should be covered.

I agree with previous comments - go with the main dealer for such a small extra amount, and if you aren't satisfied at least you have an independent that you know and trust to go back to.

My view is simple - an independent will be dealing with all sorts of makes and models. Regardless of how good he or she is, they can't know everything - they are generalists.

Going to a main dealer they have far fewer models to cover, and deal with the same make every day. They have access to the latest service bulletins and OEM parts - they are specialists.

    Thanks for all comments.

I'll get it booked in within the next month. Forgot about the possibility of a loan car too which is a massive bonus.

I'm surprised Beefy hasn't been along to give me some grief for this thread. :Fear:

There are very few people in this world I would trust to work on my car. I have known the guys at my local independent for over 30 years and they are in this select band. As good as they are, a main dealer will have the Honda experts and equipment to give you so much more. However, not all dealers are the same. It is re-assuring to know that your dealer has impressed you with your visits so far. If you haven't done so already, there is also a customer feedback rating on the dealer web pages.

My first service is due at the end of the year and HH are top of the list at present, but they are within travelling distance for me.

He's too nice a guy to do that... Well most of the time :poke:
