That stinger was a massive wasn't it.. Cars are no longer Mini's. Rossers need new 21st century gear, it could have been stopped from escalating.

It can't be too big otherwise it would cause instant failure and sudden deflation, resulting in the risk of flipping a car at high speeds and risk injuring an innocent as a result. They consist of hollow reincforced steel tubes which impregnate the tyres and allow the air to escape that way. One of those will completely deflate a tyre in around 10 seconds. They only need to be an inch long to do the deed. There are bigger ones for trucks, buses etc. Criminals don't have to care about others well being on the roads, whereas those chasing them do which is why you see them taking evasive maneouvers to allow him to pass other vehicles safely and waiting for a clear shot at a controlled containment where the risk to the public is minimised.

    Its a tough balancing act.

Fair enough perhaps the stinger was deployed too early so he had enough time to take evasive action, training for the handler then.

They are only a couple of inches tall and triangular in shape with hollow spikes on all sides so it penetrates on two sides at all times. In the dark you cannot see them, but yeah, in daylight, a bit of a later pulling it into the path may have helped
