    125000miles/200'000KM

    TIPS

if you are buying a high mileage I-CTDI please make a note of the following.

    1) Service stamps and if these services have been done at regular intervals of 12,500 miles.

    2) Ask the owner or the seller what engine oil was used for the servicing anything but 0w-30 don't touch the car, walk away.

    3) Find out if the manifold and this timing chain work has been done?

    4) Using your own judgement take the car for a spin look out for noises.. Seller can mask engine noises by thicker oil for the sale.

    5) Remaps car avoid chose a stock car.

    6) If the car has already exceeded the mileage and length of time and if this work hasn’t been done DON’T BUY the car.

    7) The cost of repairing the car with brand new parts and labour is in excess of £2400.00 so do not gamble on buying a cheap car.

What is that Ichibanhonda? You don't need to replace all injectors unless damaged when you take them out.You may need to replace the guides too if cracked or worn

Hi Teo_359 Yes I am aware of the above, this TSB was issued by Honda and if the car was exhibiting the chain noise the injectors were meant to be change regardless if they were damaged or not.On the early prefacelift cars (Accords) even Civic , CR-V and FR-V these injectors were known to break.

The case of saving the additional cost of new injectors came into play when customers were outside the warranty extension period and had to pay for this repair out of their own pocket. dealer how make this assertion very clear to customers when having their timing chain repaired.

What changed with the facelift cars in terms of of the chain?

I did hear that the problem was something to do with oil quality, but I hadn't seen a change in oil spec.

Apparently Honda said they have changed the chain and rollers to be less resistant to the acid attack from the high sooty oil, but there have been cases of facelift chains being changed.

How much that is contributed by poor maintenance is not known. I doubt it was related to oil quality than it was the frequency of the oil change.

    I'll assume that's a typo :Aghast:
All these cars on extended oil changes have got people used to the idea of 20K between services - can't be a good thing.

No its not a Typo and Honda don't have extended service schedules.

I hope it *is* a typo. I would hate to think that Honda have deliberatly made their engines worse. I would hope that any changes would make them more resistant to acid attack.

it the chain which is the weak link not the entire engine.
