    Honda has issued the following TSB#SO-10-003-01 dated 26-03-15.

    Symptom
    This bulletin describes how to treat customers vehicles were the Idle Stop function is not available and Idle Stop low battery charge symbol (White) is displayed on the i-MID.

    Cause
    A low state of battery charge may cause the Idle Stop System to cease function due to the vehicle charging system not being fully optimised for some customer driving cycles.

    Countermeasure
    ECU software has been modified to add refresh charge mode to the battery charging control to prevent a certain State Of Charge (SOC) level remaining for extended period. The battery control operation has an added phase to recover the battery charge fully, over a certain period of time.

    Battery Treatment Process
    Improve first battery charge condition before use by synchronising the battery charge capacity with the idle stop control target. To achieve this, the process described should be followed before starting. Familiarise yourself with the battery treatment process as it is a time critical operation. Read and understand the bulletin.

    Battery Treatment Procedure
    1. Preparation
    1-1. Check the following before moving to step 1-2:
    • The following DTC are not stored: P0562, P065A, P0A11, P0A94, P16E2, P16E3, P16E4, P16E5, P16BB, P1549, P154A, P154B.
    • The battery has not degraded (No amber battery failure symbol displayed)
    Note: If above DTC are stored, perform the appropriate troubleshooting as per Maris.
    Or If battery has degraded, (amber battery symbol), then the battery needs to be replaced and the procedure in Section 4 should be followed. If the battery has degraded (amber symbol) the cause may be different from the symptom described in this bulletin and troubleshooting should be followed
    accordingly.
    1-2. Remove battery from the vehicle. When the battery is cold, such as a vehicle being outside in winter, it should be brought into the workshop for 24 hours before Step 2 is carried out.
    2. Diagnosis of Battery Installed in Vehicle
    2-1. Verify recharging history If the customer has a second occurrence after the Battery treatment procedure has been carried out, then replace the battery and follow the procedure shown in Section 4 when using a new battery.
    2-2. Diagnose battery condition using battery tester
    • Test the battery using the Midtronics battery tester.
    • If battery test result is replace, then follow the procedure shown in Section 4 when using new battery”.
    • For other results (Good Recharge), follow the procedure in Section 3 for recharging the original battery.”
    3. When Recharging Installed Battery
    3-1. Battery recharging
    • Charge battery using battery charger (ChargeXpress Pro25).
    Note: Select Regular Lead Acid setting and ensure you Charge the battery until charging is complete (green
    indicator is lit).
    3-2. Verification of battery condition after charging Test the battery using the Midtronics battery tester.
    • If the battery test result is Replace battery, follow the procedure shown in Section 4 when using a new battery”.
    • If the battery test result is Good Recharge, go back to Step 3-1 battery recharging.
    • If the battery test result is Good Battery, go to step 3.3
    3-3. Install charged battery in vehicle
    3-4. Start engine and let idle for 3 minutes
    • Start the engine (idle).
    • Turn off all electrical load such as headlights and let it idle for 3 minutes.
    3-5. Discharge battery
    • Switch OFF the engine.
    • Turn the Ignition ON position (II) (Do not start the
    engine).
    • Turn on headlights (Low Beam) and heated rear windscreen defogger and leave it for the applicable time as shown below.
    Note: Do the above action as quickly as possible!
    The following idle time conditions apply depending on vehicle equipment.
    Note: Do not let leave it longer than the time indicated.
    • Vehicle with halogen headlamps…15 minutes
    • Vehicle with HID headlamps….....20 minutes
    Note: Make sure following are switched OFF:
    A/C - HVAC
    • Blower fan
    • Audio
    • Navigation screen
    After the applicable time has passed, switch of All electrical equipment and switch OFF the ignition.
    3-6. Idling stop operational check
    Check if the vehicle idle stop system is functioning properly.
    • Let the vehicle stand for 3 minutes.
    • Start the engine
    • Turn headlight Low Beam On and test drive to
    check if the vehicle idle stops.
    Note: Ensure the test drive location allows long enough to perform the idle stop test, EG parking lot.
    • If idle stop does not work due to a battery related issue, replace battery with a new one. (*) See
    Section 4.
    • If idle stop is successful, wait until the engine restarts automatically. leave it to idle, it will restart in about 3 minutes.
    After restart, leave it to idle for 3 minutes.
    • Perform the idle stop operation again.
    • If idle stop does not work due to battery related issue, replace battery with a new one. (*) See
    Section 4.
    Note: (*) At this time, make sure that DTC are not stored.
    • If idle stop works, then go to Section 3-7 to Finish

    Battery Treatment.
    • Carry out the Engine ECU software update using the latest version of HDS.
    3-7. Finish Battery Treatment
    The battery recharging treatment is now complete.
    Record the VIN number etc, to clarify that the battery has been recharged should it return in the future to the dealer with similar symptoms.
    4. When using a new battery
    4-1. Before installing the new battery, carry out the first charging of the new battery.
    Make sure the new battery has been at room temperature (workshop) for 24 hours.
    • Charge battery using battery charger
    (ChargeXpressPro25).
    Note: Ensure you select the Lead Acid Mode and you Charge the battery until charging is complete (green indicator will lit)
    4-2. Install the new (charged) battery into vehicle
    4-3. Start engine and let stand for 3 minutes
    • Turn Ignition ON and start the engine.
    • Turn off all electrical load such as headlight and let
    it idle for 3 minutes.
    4-4. Discharge battery
    • Switch OFF the engine.
    • Turn the Ignition ON position (II) (Do not start the engine).
    • Turn on headlights (Low Beam) and heated rear windscreen defogger and leave it for the applicable time as shown below. Note: Do the above action as quickly as possible!
    The following idle time conditions apply depending on vehicle equipment.
    Note: Do not let leave it longer than the time indicated.
    • Vehicle with halogen headlamps…15 minutes
    • Vehicle with HID headlamps….....20 minutes
    4-5. Idling stop operational check
    Verify if idling stop is functioning properly.
    Check if the vehicle idle stop system is functioning properly.
    • Let the vehicle stand for 3 minutes.
    • Start the engine
    • Turn headlight Low Beam On and test drive to check if the vehicle idle stops.
    Note: Ensure the test drive location allows long enough to perform the idle stop test, EG parking lot.
    • If idling stop does not work due to a battery
    related issue, replace battery with a new one. (*)
    See Section 4.
    • Carry out the Engine ECU software update using the latest version of HDS.
    4-6. The procedure is now complete that concludes the treatment for a new battery

    Market Treatment
    If a customer complains about the symptom mentioned in this bulletin, their vehicle should be treated using the Battery Treatment procedure.
