    Hi All,

My recent BMW 318i has decided to completely give up on me!!

I'm in the market for a Honda Accord with a budget of 5k

What do you recommend? From what i'm reading the Petrol versions are better than the diesels is that correct?

What MPG does the petrol versions reach? i'll be doing between 15k-20k a yearh

Thanks for your replies in advance

    Hello and welcome to AOC
5k should get you a decent 7th Generation Accord.
I have 2.4 petrol and if I drive carefully I am seeing around 36mpg on motorway and around 26mpg in town.
Wait for some 2.0 litre owners on their figures on MPG.
Good luck and hope you find a good one.

The figures for a 2.0 petrol won't actually be that much better than the 2.4

The extra torque of the 2.4 allows it to tootle along easier than the 2.0

    Hi there,

Do you know the MPG for the 2.4?

    Cheers

Zoran quoted you around 36mpg on motorway and around 26mpg in town.

    That sounds about right.

    Hi and welcome.

Personally I would go for the 2.0 with that mileage.

The 15k-20k a year .. how much of it will be motorway miles ?

If most of it is motorway miles, then the 2.4 would suit you better.

If most of it is town driving then the 2.0 would suit you better.

    Thanks Zoran.

I was getting round 33mpg with my BMW so anything above would be an advantage.

Probably 60% motorway 40% around town.

is the diesel version not a good option?

Diesel is fine as long as it doesn't go wrong. If it goes wrong it will cost a packet to repair and thereby nullify the money saved.

There's been a fair few threads discussing diesel versus petrol, here is one of them http://hondakarma.com/threads/2910/

I always say to people if you are not too sure what you want then once you have the feedback from the experienced people here then make yourself a shortlist of possible cars you are thinking about and then look at vehicles around your local area ring the garages up and ask for a test drive in them. Once you`ve given them the once over you can make your own decision.
BUT if you have any things you are not sure about then the experienced members here can help you greatly .

Oh I just had a little look through Autotrader and found this which looks pretty decent with fairly low mileage.

    Honda Accord 2.4 I-VTEC EXECUTIVE 4DR 2005

Hope you find a good example. And enjoy your time here at AOC

Thanks all, I think im going to go for the 2.0ltr accord mainly due to the extra few MPGS over the 2.4 version.
