I have a very basic 1.2 Jaz 2006 bought second hand but only 45,000 miles on the clock and I have a steering query.
On normally turning a corner the steering will self center , but on running on a straight road and making slight steering adjustments the wheel does not self center and you have to deliberately correct back to the center, this is at all speeds.

The tires are well shod and at the correct pressure

Due to distance from a main dealer I have only been able at present to talk on the phone about this, but I am told they never fully self center on the earlier models. I undertand the system is not hydraulic power assisted but electric, and fitting the respective parts if needed would be in excess of £1000.

I realize that an inspection is essential in the end, but if everyone has this quirk it will save me a longish journey.

I wondered if anyone has any experience of this and if they had any replacement parts carried out did it cure the symptom. It may well,be I have bought myself some trouble. westmoors.

it is quite normal as the that Jazz has a one phase electric motor on the EPS and they are notorious to wander off course.

You will find Honda classing that as normal, it didn't please a lot of people then as it will continue even today.

Had a 2003 Civic with EPS and it was horrible, constantly correcting the steering.

I presume it has improved since then.

yes they have the 3rd Generation Jazz and 8th Generation Accord have a three phase EPS motor now so you don't get this type of wandering.

Thanks IchibanAccord. I have just looked at Google and found a list of owners of mixed model 1.2 ans 1.4's up to the latest body design of Jaz's also complaining of the same characteristic under the heading of 'repairing steering on a Jaz'. Some even mentioned checking to see if the motor fuse had blown ! It would also seem that the degree of returning to center and lightness of control varies considerably. based on all the remarks I seem to have one with a much lesser fault than many. Worth a mention, I did go down to the nearest tire specialists and found the tracking was out 2 degrees, and had them put in exactly 2.2 bar of pressure in the front tires. It may be auto suggestion having had the tracking re adjusted but the response to centering seemed much quicker on larger locks while with the small changes in course the steering felt lighter when you had to make small alterations.. Your expression 'wander of course' does fit the bill ! westmoors
