Are these any good? I was having a look online and can see the benefit of getting a decent magnetic drain plug and perhaps even some strong magnets attached to the oil filter (will they attach ok?), but I also read that magnets start to lose their strength after 176°F and completely lose their strength after 590°F unless made from high temperature material.

    Any thoughts on this?

The gearbox has its own magnet sat in the oil channels. The way it's designed all the oil has to go pass it as it circles round, it's a decent sized magnet, so not much will get past it. No need to additional magnetism to gearbox.

As for the engine, if your getting metal fillings appearing in your oil you have some serious issues anyway, in a healthy engine you shouldn't be getting metal filings appearing.

Where is the gearbox are these speedy. yes you are correct about iron filing is you see a lot then you have major issues, but even on mint engine you will see tiny amount of filings.

That gearbox that I fixed, the magnet had caught all the broken bits of the sychro ring. I didn't find any bits anywhere else, so it did it's job really well.

Shame that I didn't take picture of it at the time :Blushing:

It's this youtube video that impressed me the most: FILTERMAG DEMO - YouTube

I'll maybe look into all this, can't do any harm right?

Oh, I forgot to ask but I take it the magnet will stick to the oil filter ok and is the max. operating temp or these magnets enough? Cheers
