Hi there my name is mark, just joined the accord owners club after buying a 54 plate 2.2diesel. But had a bit of bad luck after the chain snapped, £2150 later donor engine fitted with 37000 miles on it from a 2007 plate donor car. Any advice about the car would be welcome.

Welcome to AOC Mark. Sorry to hear of the misfortune. The key to avoiding snapped chains is a super rigorous oil change regime.

Basically diesel combined with the EGR gases result in acid being picked up in the oil. If the oil is in the engine for extended service intervals the acid level increases, this acid content in turn attacks the timing chain, weakens it and it eventually gives.

So the trick is super regular oil changes.

    Hello and welcome to AOC
Just to add on what Speedy said, change oil every 5000 miles to protect your engine.

That's really unlucky! Be sure to use only the 0w30 good stuff  what was the mileage on the ol'gal before it gave in?
