    This isn't going as planned.
I've recently been looking for an 8th Generation Accord tourer I-DTEC, 2008/2009, 50-80k miles on the clock, ES GT with nav pack, around £9-9.5k max.
Needs to buy ASAP as my current Alfa is costing me more every month after the recent hassles i've had i am at the point of just wanting a new car right now.

    1. First car i wanted to go and view to buy this Sat (Tourer ES GT 2009, 310 miles away) - phoned last night - car had just been sold 1hr before i phoned.
Plan: Re-evaluate and choose a good one that doesn't fit my desired spec/price/age/mileage as well as the first choice.

    2. Second car i decided to go and view to buy this Sat (Saloon EX GT 2008, 315 miles away) - phoned this afternoon - car had just been sold 2hr before i phoned.
Plan: Re-evaluate again and choose a good one that doesn't fit my desired spec/price/age/mileage as well as the second choice.

    3. Third and final car i decided to go and view to buy (Estate ES GT 2009, 320 miles away) this Sat –
But, after emailing the dealer (asking detailed questions) it turns out the (Honda) car service schedule has been: 13k / 25k / 39k / 70k.
    They should be around (at a minimum) - 12.5k / 25k / 37.5k / 50k / 62.5k / 75k / 87.5k.
Gah, told the dealer i can't take the risk of a higher mileage car (80k, next service due in 2k) with what looks like x2 missing services in its history.
Plan: Consider giving up on the Accord 8th Generation as all the 'good' cars are many miles away from Scotland and if i do manage to find one that hasn't been sold, it likely will be before i travel near it.

    QUESTION:
I'm not misunderstanding something as far as the service schedule goes am I?
Or have I successfully dodged a bullet?

    Grump.
    Mark.

Looking at the service intervals it does not have SvRS enabled and has been serviced on 12500 mile schedule.
There is a big gap there.39k then 70k, if in doubt walk away.

SvRS - is that the variable servicing that i've read about? (& didn't understand).
Is that based on some form of schedule built into the car system then, informing you when something is due?
    Sounds a bit odd.
    Cheers, Mark.

I found finding a decent 7th Generation 2.4i Exec in Scotland very difficult and only two came up and both wanted £5K+ for them. I ended up driving south of Manchester to pick up a good deal, although I've had a few trivial problems. My car had a full Main Dealer Service history and to be honest I'm not all that impressed by this history. I was told today by an ex-Honda mechanic that they can be on some time-reward scheme whereby if they can save time from the official book time when doing servicing/repairs then they get this as a bonus in their wages. Recipe for disaster me thinks.

If your willing to travel I bought my car from this guy Used Cars Kersley End, Used Car Dealer in Coventry | Paddocks Cars Coventry
He is a nice bloke and knows his Hondas quite well its all he sells. I found him very honest if a little over priced but then all his cars were of a very good standard
Prob is he is a fair hop from you..

Unfortunatley/fortunatley depending on your view, not may 8th gens have been sold, so they are hard to find used.

I bought one 2 weeks ago from CARGIANT London, not bad prices.
Good service and you can drive away that day if you have the correct paperwork.
Had about 8 Accords in stock all had about 70,000- 90,000m though.

Thanks guys for the info and tips.
Was a bit p!ssed off and fed up when i started this thread, ignored the car search for the rest of the easter weekend and i'm starting afresh now with an open and calm mind

I had been looking at x12 different car selling sites when i started looking for a 7th Generation Accord, but as the other sites didn't add many useful results over Autotrader, I only checked them occasionally and stuck to Autotrader for my daily hit.

    <EDIT: updated all links for 8th Generation>

On ebay I've found in the past that they are nearly always high milers or problem cars, (& duplicates of adverts on autotrader) but maybe thats changing.
Couldn't find any 8th Generation accord tourers listed in Dunfermline on ebay (i live in Dunfermline), but maybe its gone (or out of my prices/spec range).

I'm willing to travel "down south" for a good car, but as last week showed - by the time I can arrange to go see them at the weekend their fairly likely to be sold.
    Will keep plodding on.

    Cheers, Mark.

Does anyone know what this colour (metallic grey) is called by Honda? (2008-2010 age 8th Generation's):-
Honda Accord 2.2 I-DTEC ES GT 5DR SALE NOW ON 2009

This is a colour i've loved since i first saw a 7th Generation Accord with a similar colour, looks amazing on an 8th Generation as well.
From what i can see looking at many adverts, there's a lighter Silver colour and this mid-to-dark Grey.

Really like the look of that car (& price/mileage is ok), but have my heart set on the nav pack (sat nav + premium audio in particular).

    Many thanks.
    Regards, Mark.

Similar sites to what I used. I also had:

Used Cars For Sale at Motors.co.uk - Buy Cheap Cars Safely
    | :: Macrae & Dick New & Used Car Dealer|Scotland|UK.
New & Used Car Dealer in Glasgow and Scotland | Park's Motor Group
Evans Halshaw | Used Cars | New Cars | Used Vans | New Vans | Servicing | Finance
Used Cars Glasgow, Used Car Dealer | Scott Baillie Cars

I think Vertu are Honda main dealers so will come up in your Approved Honda search as are Macklin Motors

    Reg Vardy?
    Exchange and Mart?

Some probably just use the same search engines/databases I guess.

What I could also do with most of the sites is put in all my criteria and search and then copy the URL into a shortcut on my desktop. This way I could just double click through a load of shortcuts rather than having to go and put all the criteria in each time. Made it much easier, although doesn't work on all of the sites.

I can highly recommend Chrome Motors btw. Used Cars Macclesfield, Used Car Dealer in Cheshire | Chrome Motors although I think they use autotrader also.

The lighter grey is polished metal. The darker grey might be volcano grey. Ill have a look in the book when I get back.

    Hi Mark,

That one looks like Volcano Grey. Polished metal is lighter.

Also you'll find the Sat Nav/Premium audio cars are quite rare especially in ES GT. Just do a general search for Sat Nav models, EX models with Sat Nav probably aren't massively more expensive.

Also consider getting a standard model and use the money you save to upgrade the speakers. Also the Nav isnt really much better than a TomTom or what you can get on a mobile phone these days. Opening your search to standard models will give your more choice.

You also avoid the headache of having to upgrade the sat nav dvd.

You'd probably find it easier to search for an EX or Type-S for not that much more money and better equipment levels, like sunroof/full leathers (EX).

    Hi Mark,

That's definitely Volcano Grey. Polished Metal is lighter and more of a gunmetal grey without the bronzey sort of hint that's in Volcano Grey. Surprised you found one in that colour was beginning to think I had the only one as not many were ordered in that colour.

Good luck with the car search.

I keep all the links in an email (pre-programmed with the settings), so i can just click the ones i want to search.
I need to update the other sites links for a gen 8 tourer
Many of the car search engine sites seem to get the data from the same place as you've suggested.
And it seems all the dealerships put adverts in autotrader, so it should be mostly a one stop shop. They'd be daft not to i suppose.
    Cheers, Mark.

    Good points, well made.

The more I have looked and investigated, the more picky i seem to have got - determined to get an ES GT + nav pack (that may change).
I really like the more aggressive lines on the GT body kit and the EX GT is a further increase in price (unfortunately i'm already pushing a good bit above my spend limit), so ES GT for me at present.

I tried the standard sound system in a low mileage 2010 ES GT and it was pretty bad - poor freq response and low volume before distortion, my wifes 2005 Civic sounds twice as good and the simple after market head unit and uprated front components speakers in my Alfa are a night and day difference (the original head unit & speakers in the Alfa were so bad i couldn't hear the radio above motorway speed road noise without it distorting).
I know there is an 8th Generation speaker distortion issue, but the test drive car didn't seem to sound like that was the problem - It would be no good upgrading the speakers if the source and amplifier aren't up to quality or power.
I'm a home audio nut, so poor audio with no easy upgrade path really would drive me round the bend.
If that's what the standard audio system sounds like in the all the cars - the nav pack for Premium Audio is a must (due to the difficulty of upgrading the head unit in the built-in unit).

Sat nav integrated would be great, but i would live with a tomtom if that was the only deal breaker - although windscreen/dash mount after market sat navs are touted in stats as one of the biggest causes of car break ins and i don't think i could be bothered removing it every day.

I've always been very big on upgrading things (stereo/speakers/engine mods/etc), but i don't want to do that on this car, its time consuming and i don't have the time - i want all/most of the goodies i'm after already fitted at the start

I'll try to keep an open mind and maybe try another car to check the standard audio system, in case there was an issue with the last one.
    Cheers, Mark.

    - - - Updated - - -

I really like the GT body kit look, more agressive and sporty and less 'rounded'.
A Type-S would be lovely (power, spec, sports grille and bumper, etc), but i'm really at the edge of a cliff regarding my spend limit.
Not many Type-S's going with a reasonable mileage around £9-9.5k. But if you spot one - let me know :Thumbup:
    Cheers, Mark.

Remember also you could add the GT front spoiler and side skirts to an EX model. Holdcroft Honda are currently selling them in their sale for £150 and £135 each respectively, around half price....

Aah, I made the mistake of thinking maybe Honda had gone for a nice simple colour line up without 16 shades of each hue.
It looks like maybe the Polished Metal & the Volcano Grey are BOTH the colours i was thinking of, from looking at some of the owners car pics attached to posters on this thread i struggle to see the difference in the 2 colours (in pictures at least, with differing weather and lighting conditions).

One of the dealerships listed these 3 colours in adverts (without pics to compare the cars) - 'Volcano Grey', 'Albaster Silver' & 'Graphite Luster'.

So the shade i've always though of as Anthracite or Graphite Grey when seeing cars on the road or pics in adverts - is probably a couple or group of similar looking colours?
I'll look up Honda's colour chart.
    Cheers, Mark.

    - - - Updated - - -

They are good prices for dealer parts, but you'd have to take off the original mouldings, get the new ones sprayed and get them fitted.
Don't know how they are clipped on or if its a swearing type of job.
It's another option, but i'm trying hard to get it right first time without having to spend time and money making alterations to get it where i want.
    Cheers, Mark.

EDIT: Would be a good spec upgrade as well and there are a few EX's about, but its also another price rise.
    I'll keep it in mind.
