    The reason they've released it for free is because it's only a minor update and mostly under the hood, also, Windows 8.1 was just released for free - can't have the competition being more charitable.

    The next OSX refresh will be along soon complete with a matching fisher price theme to iOS7, continuity to the line-up and all that.

    I'd rate Apple the best company at marketing in the world, and their hardware is solid too. Do they make the better operating system? Well it's simple, refined and reliable, perfect for your average consumer. Can a power user take it seriously? Pff...

    I loved Mac OS back in the 90s, I'm not that keen on what it's become today. The *nix platform as a whole I'm still very fond of, but not Apple's "keep it dumb" fork. I own and use Mac hardware and couldn't be happier with it, I just can't take their operating systems seriously.
