I am currently negotiating to buy a current model ES GT Tourer (from a Honda dealership) and I made an agreement with the supplying dealer to retrofit the full Parking Assist system including Camera.

They have come back and said that they can only fit Front and Rear Sensors, but not the camera because there would not be anywhere to mount the display screen in the dash area.

Do any of you experts know if this is correct please?

    Thanks

Is this a brand new ES GT? or a approved Car?

The Parking Assist system including Camera is a factory option made at the time of order only it cannot be fitted at the dealers.

At the time of order the above system come up with the Advance NAVI model.

    Thanks for reply.

No this is not a new one it is about a year old with delivery mileage. I imagine that the dealer must be absolutely desperate to sell it after all this time.

Your info is bad news for me as the car is longer and wider than any that I have ever had and I have a very tight, steep and curved driveway, hence why I was holding out for this.

TBH bud the parking sensors will aid you adequately the rear parking camera does have it advantages in dark corners where its infra red camera helps to gauge distances.

If you say the dealer is desperate to offload then make this your crucial leverage point to negotiate a better deal. Trust me Honda dealers have been instructed to clear all Accord stocks at any cost ,so go in with your size tens on but be reasonable don't get too carried away .

The dash is slightly different on the Nav model with the camera, so I don't think it could be retrofitted even if they would buy the parts for probably almost £1000 I reckon.

    What about retrofit parking cameras?

Not personally convinced they are that useful, no substitute for careful reversing, looking behind and in the mirrors, as with parking sensors, somewhat of a gimmick.

If you buy it, get them to throw in a space saver tyre kit also, only £150, but essential.

Why don't you look for another Tourer, preferably in EX guise that has the camera fitted as standard? Just a thought....

Thanks for the advice - I ended up with front and rear sensors (no camera, although they did offer to get one fitted by a local 3rd party specialist for £300) in addition to (I think) a decent PX deal and they will fill it with diesel and deliver the car, so fairly happy at the end of a protracted negotiation. Because of the Christmas break I will have to wait until the end of next week for my Celestial Blue (seems to be a rare colour) Tourer.

The dash is completely the same except for the headunit which CAN be retrofitted.

Yes on papers but no longer term data to suggest its a 100% workable solution free from faults. Cars with OEM fitted units don't have issues. Until we have have concrete proof this is workable so please tread with intrepidation.

I am still waiting for the front parking sensors to be fitted.

Apparently they do not have the switch for them and this is on its way from Belgium, according to the dealership. The whole process looks as if it will be a month from first agreeing to buy the car to taking delivery of it. A bit frustrating but hopefully it will be worth the wait in the end.

Why don't you take the car and they can have it back for the day to fit the front sensors when the part is in? Expect they would give you a courtesy car for the day.

In fairness they did offer this but the dealership is around 100 miles from where I live so will entail an additional 200 mile round trip.

Considering the wait you have, can't they source you an EX model that has all these features as standard?

If it were me, I wouldn't be waiting on part retrofits for a month, no matter what the price was. I'd take my money elsewhere and buy an EX model with factory fitted products rather than retrofitted - which will never be as good as standard factory fit.

To be fair (again) a lot of the delay was caused by me trying to play hardball and get the parking aids fitted after I had agreed to buy the car. Your suggestion is a valid one but I suspect that I would have to buy a car which had covered a fair mileage to get an EX on the same deal as this one. Oh - and my wife likes the colour!

PM me your car deal etc and I am sure I can find you an EX model with similar/less miles for the same price. As for car colour, doesnt make a blind bit of difference as you can't see the outside of the car when you're sat inside it.
