    Hi all

Does anyone have any advice / tips on replacing the alternator on a 2.0 petrol engine? I'm assuming (hoping) it's a relatively easy job for an amateur!!

    Cheers,
    Nesh.

    Hi Nesh, weclome to AOC.

    Yes should be straight forward.

From memory steps are as below :-

    1) Disconnect the terminals on the battery
    2) Unplug the connector on the back of the alternator
    3) Use 10mm spanner to remove the nut holding the single thick wire
    4) Loose the the two bolts holding the alternator in place
    5) You should be able to move the alternator freeing the belt. Move the belt out of the way
    6) Remove the bolts you loosened, alternator should now come.

    Fitting is reverse of removal

Whilst your at it examine the belt, replace if necessary.

Take some pictures of the steps and post in this thread.. they can serve as a DIY guide

Thanks for your advice. Sounds quite simple! Was thinking I would probably have to jack the car up, to get to some sort of tensioner, to release slack from the belt etc. But perhaps I don't need to get underneath at all? I'll deffo try to take some pics as I do it!

Those instructions are from memory so hopefully I have recalled correctly for the 6th Generation Accord.

Well have just had a look, and managed to loosen the top bolt a little (was hard work getting a socket to it tho)! Can't even see the other bolt looking down from the top though!! :-\
