Starting has steadily got worse when yesterday I had to crank twice for her to start. I'm fairly sure its the crank sensor but not 100%. No EML is on but the battery is good and the issue is happening intermittely but getting more frequent, more so when warm. Can anyone help verify my suspicions? Where is the crank sensor located, how much of a pig is it to swap out? thanks.

I'm out and about at the moment Paul so I'll just reply quickly now and the have another look your thread later this evening.

To answer your question, the crank sensor is by the crank pulley. If you remove the offside front wheel, you will see it.

Having said that I don't think that will be an issue to be honest.

I'll reply further when I am on my laptop this evening.

This could actually be a number of things.

I would start by doing some simple checks, first off ensure you battery terminals are on tight and check all your earth connections and condition of earth wires.

Then I'd remove the spark plugs and "read" them. By that I mean looking at each one and seeing what colour and condition it is.
This may give you some clues. For example a wet plug or one that is a lot blacker than the others could indicate a leaking injector.

Report back what you find after doing these two steps and we take it from there.

thank you @SpeedyGee i appreciate your help. Father had a heart attack at the weekend so trying to avoid a breakdown as the hospital is 1 hour away. Helps keep my mind off things as well despite being overwhelmed and busy. I'll get my head under the bonnet and take some pics of the plugs, I assume there a simple affair to access.

Thankyou @Nels father is having angioplasty today so hopefully be home soon! Any how I dragged myself out to the car to checkout the plugs, one was slightly loose but I think they look fairly normal, what do you think?

The ends look okay, but there's more to it than just that.
This is form @Ichiban's guide, as mentioned by @SpeedyGee.
How do your plugs compare to the NGK Trouble Shooting pictures?

Perfect heat range, not running lean or rich, all uniform. Plug gap is hard to tell as all the pictures are taken differently, worth checking the gap is correct on all of them.

    Overall no problems indicated here.

Car hasn't done it recently, I'm wondering if it was the slightly loose spark plug. Fingers crossed.

Could be. No need to worry about it unless it happens again then.
