Hi guys, there are two round plastic pieces on the back door interiors. I think these might be for the window mechanisms in the event of failure etc.
    Can anyone confirm for me?

Those are just blanking discs which are put there when you have electric windows installed. The design of manual and electric window mechanisms are generally different.

I've just pulled off the cap in the dark and was sure I could feel the splined shaft for the manual winder, I'll have a look again in daylight.

I would guess that electric windows where retrofitted to your car, and instead of replacing the entire door card with the correct one, they got those caps to cover the holes. They used genuine switches though so it looks more OEM.
Generally speaking electric window mechs are completely different to manual ones and don't come with manual over ride.
