We'll have some scheduled downtime for maintenance this evening beginning at midnight, we hope to have it completed within 2 hours. Routine server maintenance and optimisation work ahead of the Parts Store launching, however it requires us to take the server offline to complete as disk repartitioning is involved. All being well, we'll have some slight speed increases to the site as a side affect of the preparation for the extra traffic/load.

It was 6 months ago I and Leo sat and we are saying it will be a year atleast before we would be thinking of increasing capacity. Well its been brought forward in half the time.

That's because we have too many grandiose ideas all the time like hosting brochures for every model under the sun

There will be some image errors over the next hour or two as files are moved around, should be finalised before long.

We've been running from SSDs since last year, just a larger one now

Sweet, do they come any bigger in any sizes bigger than 1tb (with a reasonable space:cost)?

I believe 1TB is still the largest consumer drive at 2.5", 4TB for 3.5" - though we virtualise on a share of massive RAID10 SSD arrays. The maximum we can scale up to at the drop of a hat is around 1920GB, 20 dedicated cores (Intel Xeon E5) and about 96GB RAM - but with a couple of hours of dedicated downtime we can go as large as we like really.

Only reason for the quick reallocation now is to prepare for the future a bit more, with the brochure uploads and the extra load from the Parts Store we thought we were best to pre-empt.

Impressive, I didn't even know RAID 10 exists! Made for interesting reading

It's pretty much the industry standard for corporate-level redundancy, I use RAID6 for my home server.

All done, I've made some major changes to the way the server handles attachments - any errors spotted, please let me know.
