ICE & HFT Speakers seem to be dying on me....

My Accord apparently has a "Premium Sound System"....It's got an in-dash six-disc autochanger, and the brochure says eight speakers (Although I can only find seven: Two front tweeters, one in each front door, one in each rear door. and one in the boot....Can't see an eighth anywhere!).

I cannot say for sure how many speakers were working when I got the car, but the other day, I noticed that the speaker in the LHF door became intermittent, and then fizzled out altogether....A little play with the fade and balance controls, has revealed that I now only have four working speakers of the seven that I can find (And if there IS an eighth, I have to assume that it doesn't work, or I'd be able to hear it!)....The ones still working are: Two front tweeters, RHF door, LHR door....It is currently still possible to get some sort of sound quality, by adjusting the balance/fade between the working speakers, but now the LHR is occasionally cutting out, making it feel like I'm going momentarily deaf in my left ear!

Is it possible that so many of my speakers could ALL fail, or should I be looking elsewhere (The output of the stereo?) for the problem? I'm rubbish with electrics, so any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated!

    Cheers....

    It does have 8 speaker
    2 Tweeters
    2 front speakers
2 rear speakers in the rear doors
2 rear speakers in the speaker shelf

The prefacelift car did have a habit of blowing their amplifiers which is below the cigarette lighter in the depths of the central console. swap that and your speakers start to work.

Thanks....Mine is a Tourer, so has no rear shelf as such....There is one large speaker in the load area, on the driver's side, but in the corresponding space on the passenger side, there is a lidded cubby for a First-Aid kit....No Speaker!

I have made tentative enquiries with a local I.C.E. specialist, and he also mentioned the word "Amplifier", which is encouraging, as I was starting to worry that the fault may be with the stereo itself, and I should imagine they're not cheap!

Sorry I didn't look your car being a Tourer my mistake. http://hondakarma.com/threads/67/

It would seem there is a typo on the brouchure there are only 7 on a tourer with Premium sound system, the boot being a woofer\speaker

I'll soon be wanting to try tunnelling down to the amplifier, but am worried that I'm gonna break stuff while trying to get the console apart....Does anyone know if there's a manual I can buy that might help? Haynes don't seem to list one....Has anyone else found an alternative manual?

I'd imagine the proper Honda one to be quite expensive?

Thanks....I only have to go down under the centre console beneath the cigar lighter/ashtray, so won't need to remove the stereo (I hope), but that gives an idea of how to get in there without breaking anything!
