Sad news (for me anyway) that the print edition of The Independent will cease in March :Frown:

My favourite read for many years - I even have one of their front pages from 2008 framed in my office. Readership has declined rapidly from a high water mark of over 400k a day to just 28k a day now. Shame.

This piece is an interesting observation from The Spectator. We all have such limited attention spans these days it seems...I doubt The Indy will be the last casualty.

It was the i, not the internet, that did for the Independent | Coffee House

Well print media will fall to a point it will disappear you can get multimedia news on the internet and people don't spend hours reading newspapers any more. I just read the Sunday Times if that in 40 minutes I read what I want to read and the rest is a blur.

yeah printed news is going the same way as ...
    printed yellow pages
    printed phone directories
    phone boxes

I can get all the news I want on TV 24 hours ....BBC, Sky, Al Jazeera (in that order)
I've never bought a national newspaper, and stopped buying local papers about 25 years ago

I can't remember the last time I saw someone read a newspaper outside of a tube train. :Tea:

I'm going to miss proper, printed, newspapers.

I still get one nearly every weekend, and often during the week a couple of times.

Yet more jobs to go in the name of progress...to be replaced by what?

    :depressed:

Doomed I tell you. We're all doooooooooomed!

As a printer I've seen a seen many factory's close and down size. Cradley print that produced magazines was the first big company to close by my me in the late 90s That then followed shortly after by the Millennium group locally know as Walsall litho. The company had been going 110 years until it folded. We did Grants whisky, Colgate and a load of Boots products to name a few. I always wanted to work at the express and star but never got the chance. I believe the wolverhampton factory has now shut and the remaining papers printed in Telford at another company where they also produce the free local papers. I think they'll be many more papers and magazines going on line in the next few years.
