...or alternatively, the grumpy old man thread :wheelchair:

    Things I miss:

    - Woolworths
    - The musical or drum break in a song
    - People using words like "wonderful" or "magnificent" rather than "awesome." Damned American influences...
    - Shops staying shut on a Sunday. Peace and quiet to clean the car or cut the lawn
    - Cassingles and CD singles, especially the 3" ones that came with a plastic adaptor...
    - Tax discs (too soon?)
    - Ticket offices at railway stations with actual, real, people staffing them.

That's all for now. I feel like I should have started with "I remember the days when..." I may be turning into my Father...:Aghast:

Standards and values. I know that covers many things.
    Also, respect.

I miss being able to buy something that wasn't "made in China". To me that phrase is synonymous to poor quality.

I miss cassettes in the car! Making a mixed tape for the car took time because you have limited space, now its too easy to put everything on one device then spend the whole time skipping to the next track.
Still have my Yamaha tape deck at home which I use.

Remember that fear as you hear your favourite song start to get chewed up as the player gets caught on a bit of lint.

I miss the unique sounds of LP's.

I miss simple cars, not those riddled with computers and electronics governing your every move. I miss the over engineered cars that the Japanese market was always so famous for, which made them so reliable and no other competitor could even come close. I miss the fact that my kids can't just go and play out in the street or in a field somewhere. Mobile phones - what a pain they are. Who remembers just going out, noone can contact you. Leave the house in the morning, come home at night, no contact, noone worrying etc.

I remember being the only person in a pub with a mobile phone (brick), various requests to "ring my mam to tell her I'm on a mobile phone"! Before that I had a pager that displayed messages, and before that I had one that just bleeped.

I also miss the road atlas.

Anybody still use one? I still have one, actually I used it on Monday to look at possible routes for a friend.

I don't use satnav, I look at the route on a map and memorize it.

Must admit - I rarely use a sat nav, I prefer looking at a book or - heaven forbid - road signs and using common sense and a sense of direction.

From my earlier post...3" CD singles - got loads of these. One shown with the plastic adapter, for anyone that fondly remembers those.

The Hue & Cry one I never even took out of the plastic...:Ohdear:

Yes, mobile phones.... Far too easy to cancel. Before mobiles you had to stick to your plans!

I've just been prompted to put one on - Lloyd Cole, the "So you'd like to save the world?" cassingle. Brilliant, such a warm sound with Dolby B...

Always keep a few blank cassettes too - TDK for me - and kept sealed until required. I think I need help...

I think @FirstHonda is just about to start his midlife crisis....

Some of the old school stuff is still best.

Not to mention to have a standby pencil in the glove box to wind up the chewed tape. I had a bottle of aftershave and Johnson and Johnson ear buds in the car to clean the tape head.

Did you see that wollies advert from @FirstHonda, the betamax under the TV on the stand. I remember breaking the tabs off the VHS cassettes to stop my folks from accidentally recording coronation street over my cartoons. They could never figure out why the tape wouldn't record.
