    Hi Guys,

Has anyone here replaced the tie rod inner ball joint (the one that lives inside the rubber boot on the end of the steering rack) on a pre-facelift 2004 Diesel Tourer? Its the drivers side. What I really need to know is can it be done without removing the rack? Any other tips and pointers would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Richard

I haven't replaced one myself but I can't think why you would have to remove the rack to do it.

The nut holding it maybe jammed on, you may need to get a gas torch on to heat it to free it.

Also make a mark of where the tie rod sits before you start, so that you can get roughly the same wheel alignment after you replace the tie rod end ball joint.

Probably worth getting wheel alignment checked afterwards anyway.

Actually the "inner one" shouldn't be jammed up as it shouldn't be rusted as its inside the gaiter so scratch the comment on using a gas torch.
