As I have my windows tinted, am I supposed to inform my insurance company?

Yes you are unfortunately, they usually give 3 options with a differing range of tint percentages.

That sounds like an admin fee to make a ammendment mid term rather than increase in premium. You should be able to ask them what the charge is for.

I'm with Axa and you can change items without admin charges if you do it all online.

I would have thought tinting your windows (legally) wouldn't increase risk as you are blocking out people from seeing the contents of your car? After all; no-one is going to steal some tints lol but they might steal some nice aftermarket alloys or whatever.
