This is showing '8', but when I click in, it says
"You have no unread posts. You may view all recent posts instead."

Is this something I've done wrong?
It had been showing '5' for a couple of days.

I've had the same issue once or twice where I've been shown unread posts that don't exist, I've been meaning to look into it. For now, just hit the "Mark Forums Read" button if the counter doesn't reset, I'll do some investigating and get back to you.

    Will do.
It's not urgent. Just wanted to flag so you know :Hey:
It's no problem to keep resetting.

Just meant it's no hardship for now.
But I'm with you about clearing everything.
It would 'bug' me until I knew it was sorted.

I think how this comes about is that if you look at a thread and say it has 8 unread posts, if you only scroll down and read 4 post, get bored leave the other 4 posts and move onto the the next thread.

The thread is marked read so will no longer show in the list but the post count will still show 4 as you didn't read the remaining 4 posts on that thread you were looking at.

I don't think that the situation is an easy on to code around, I would say just be aware that you scroll to the end of thread to ensure all the posts are marked as read.

I've found that this is easy to do unintentionally when the unread posts span over to the next page and you don't realise there is another page to go.

Speedy it comes from when a topic is deleted before someone reads it, it's a known bug for our live updates script which automatically checks for alerts without reloading the page.

The solution is known and the guy who originally wrote the original script is in the process of patching it up at the moment
