I'm way too young to know the model. It's a photo of my old man in his late teens with one of his first cars, I'm sure he told me in the past what it was but for the life of me I can't remember.

    Not much to go on:

It's not important, I'm just curious.

He was, guitarist since he was a young'un. Knocked about with quite a few well known names, wrote the track "Saturday Night at the Duck Pond" by the Cougars (piss take of Swan Lake, got quite high in the charts if memory serves).

I would assume mid-60s given my Dad's age, he was born '46.

To me, it looks more like a 50's car?
One piece screen, 1/4 windows at the front and aerial... curious :Wassat:

I'd assume that it is mate, he wouldn't be driving a new car at that age.

Leo can you zoom into the picture and look at the tax disc date? From here it looks like 1967?

It looks to me like a Hillman Minx Series III, could be wrong but the horn ring around the steering wheel and the chrome strip along the front scuttle look like a Minx.

No worries, my dad loved his cars and was always buying and selling them so have seen a fair few in my time, think I may have sat in one of these when little.

Could also be a late 50s early 60s Sunbeam Rapier?

I don't think they had that chrome strip under the windscreen and such a high chrome strip on the sides, as they have that rear American style fin don't they?

I see where you're coming from with that @steve4536, though I can't find an example of a black one without the different coloured roof. As @Blue Toffee said I think there's a few subtle differences. Even what you can see of the seats looks the same with the Hillman.

    Sunbeam Rapier (1).
The earlier rapier, 1950's didn't have the rear wing fins. They jumped on the American space race styling in the 60's, as most other car makers did at that time. Very Minxy looking though.

This is true, however looking at the top of the 'A' Pillar on the Rapiers compared to Leos picture they are totally different, along with the location of the chrome side strip on the doors, also the Rapiers have a chrome band around the roof gutter too which the Minx doesn't have.
