    Hi Guys,

Was just changing my MTF. Whilst going for the check oil level plug I accidentally undid a plug higher up on the transmission, one with a little spring on the end.

Just wanted to check if anyone knows what this is for or if I need to be worried about its position/settings.

    Cheers

At the end of spring is little ball bearing, the bolt pushes the spring which pushes down on the ball bearing. As you select a gear, the shift forks move around, when a gear is selected the ball bearings (theres another two like the one you spotted) fall into a groove. This helps keep the gear selector locked to that gear.

I'll try digging up a photo or diagram to explain better.

That makes sense. Thanks for that.

So as long as no parts fell out when I removed it I should be ok? I have driven the car since and nothing seems amiss. Im guess the bolt is there to allow replacement?

Would be worth torquing the bolt to 16 ft-lbs or 22 Nm
