Engine Oil Replacement
- Difficulty Level:
1 Warm up the engine.
2 Remove the engine undercover
Remove the splash shield (A).
2-1 From the wheel arch on both sides, remove the clips (B) securing the front splash shield and the front inner fender (C) to the body, and remove the clips (D) securing the front splash shield to the body.
3-2 From under the front bumper (E), remove the clips (F) and the screws (G).
3-3 From under the body, remove the clips (H).
4-4 Release the hooks (I) of the front splash shield from the front inner fender, then pull the splash shield out.
5-5 Remove the screw (J, K) and the clips (L), then remove the engine under cover (M) and the maintenance lid (N).
NOTE: To release the clips B, D, F, H, pry up on the center pin at the notch (O).
Install the splash shield in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
• If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
• Push the clips and the hooks into place securely.
• Put on gloves to protect your hands.
• Take care not to scratch the body or the related parts.
• When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage.
3 Remove the drain bolt (A), and drain the engine oil.
4 Reinstall the drain bolt with a new washer (B) and torque to specification.
5 Remove the oil filter with the oil filter wrench.
6 Inspect the filter to make sure the rubber seal is not stuck to the oil filter seating surface of the engine.
7 Inspect the threads (A) and the rubber seal (B) on the new filter. Clean the seat on the oil pan, then apply a light coat of new engine oil to the filter rubber seal. Use only filters with a built-in bypass system.
8 Install the oil filter by hand.
Special Tools Required
Oil Filter Wrench 07HAA-PJ70101
9 After the rubber seal seats, tighten the oil filter clockwise with the oil filter wrench to the specified torque.
Tighten: 3/4 Turn Clockwise
Tightening Torque: 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 9 lbf·ft)
Refill the engine with the recommended engine oil .
With oil level sensor:
At Oil Change: 3.4 L (3.6 US qt, 3.0 lmp qt)
At Oil Change Including Filter: 3.6 L (3.8 US qt, 3.2 lmp qt)
After Engine Overhaul: 4.2 L (4.4 US qt, 3.7 lmp qt)
Without oil level sensor:
At Oil Change: 3.0 L (3.2 US qt, 2.6 lmp qt)
At Oil Change Including Filter: 3.2 L (3.4 US qt, 2.8 lmp qt)
After Engine Overhaul: 3.8 L (4.0 US qt, 3.3 lmp qt)
10 Run the engine for more than 3 minutes, then check the oil level and for any oil leakage.
11 If the service reminder required replacing the engine oil, reset the service reminder , when this procedure is complete. If the service reminder did not require engine oil replacement, go to step 12 .
12 Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
13 Connect the HDS to the DLC .
14 Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
15 Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and PCM. If it does not communicate, troubleshoot the DLC circuit .
16 Go to the Individual Maintenance Items Reset , and do the RESETTING THE ENGINE OIL LIFE with the HDS.
