    Hi, sorry for starting a thread for such a basic question.....What type of oil should I used to top up my 2009 K24 manual accord?
    By that I mean what would Honda pour in during a service?

    (I have looked round the forum and can't find the info)

    Thank you very much.

    Honda recommend 0-20 but I've used 5-30 from day one and the car loves it.
    I'm trying out mobil 1 ESP at the min and the car runs sweet.I also do a oil and filter change every 6K

    Thanks for the reply, I'll pick up some 0-20 as it was a Honda garage that last serviced it.

    I'm surprised that you could not find anything about this. I've just put 'Which oil' in the search function and selected Ichiban as the 'Posted by Member' and it's thrown up pages of answers. This is the one that will be of most use.

    I'm planning to do the same. But I still have 7 liters of the 'old' oil.

    I disagree with you both honda recommends oil from 15w to 0w it also states you should use correct oil according to climate temperature there is more than one type of oil this engine can use happily i used 15w30 to flush engine currently running 5w30 and plan to go to 0w30 on next oil change

    If the engine has done a lot of miles or is using oil, then 5W-30. If not, 0W-20.
    These are the recommendations for UK 8th Generation Accords.

    This is what is in the current owners manual and on the charts issued to dealers from Honda.
    The 0W-20 and 0W-30 became the recommended a few years ago (2014 IIRC) for most vehicles. They return better MPG whilst still protecting the engine.

    Yes, you can use other oils, that's up to you. However, these are the current recommendations.

    OK thanks folks :Smile: I thought this discussion might generate some different opinions. I am going to go with this one;

    172x257-mobil-1-fuel-economy-0w-30.

    Looks to be very promising and certainly won't cause any problems.
