Car is running great, covered just over 1000 miles.
Not run in yet, getting 35+ MPG round town and 46+ MPG on a longer drive.
Cleaning today, topped up windscreen wash and noted engine coolant expansion tank was AT minimum level.
From what I've been able to gather, this is normal with a cold engine?
Radiator cap removal revealed a full radiator, but was a little confused with expansion tank level being so low?
Will check further with dealer but expect level to rise in expansion tank with hot engine.
Guess will know more tomorrow, just about to tow for a hundred mile or so.
    Update soon.

That almost sounds like skimping in all the wrong places.

Thanks to all for advice and concern.
Returned from trip with caravan, car performing well, as expected.
    Kept watch of coolant level.
Radiator full and expansion bottle still at minimum level, rising ever so slightly when engine hot.
Called into local Honda dealer and was assured from service engineer, "ALL the new CR-V's are like that sir, nothing to worry about, it's normal. Just as long as it doesn't go below minimum level, it's fine"

My 2014 CR-V 2.2idtec has no fluid in the expansion tank. Take radiator cap off and the radiator is full to the brim.
The expansion tank is higher than the radiator cap and hence if you open the cap will the expansion tank empty?
Most cars with expansion tanks don't have radiator caps, they are a sealed system so I'm not sure why Honda have a cap and a tank. Sounds like boots and braces engineering.
Have wondered a couple of times if this needs topping up. Then forgot to ask dealer. Don't want to top up and over-pressurize the system.
    Advice please

As CJ said top up to the max on a cold engine
This might be a small amount of air in the system still as its a new car.
Keep an eye on it and if it drops again there is a problem.

My coolant had fallen below min by the time I got home from the dealers. Went back and they topped it up - it's stayed full since then

Thanks for your replies. Spoke to dealer while I was passing and they would have topped it up for free. Did not have car with me and for £5.35 didn't seem worth driving back to fetch it. Apparently 2.2idtec can use a little coolant from time to time. Will keep an eye on it though just in case there is a hose that wants nipping up.

The second brand new CR-V with no coolant in the header tank. Need best part of 1.5litres to top the header tank to max (to be honest got fed up with topping it up a little at a time) took it back to dealer as there was evaporation coolant marks on top of the fan. Looks like bipassing top hose and the swines accused me of opening the radiator cap. Even the if I had taken the radiator cap off there would not have been enough coolant in the system to come out .
Not be taking it back there again. Very poor PDI

The coolant level in my new one dropped significantly after about 100 miles. I took it back to the dealer and they topped it up to the full level and offered the explanation that it is not unheard of on a new car on the basis that sometimes when being filled at the factory an airlock gives the impression it is correctly filled when it isn't. After normal use for a short period it works it's way out and just needs topping up.

In my case that appeared to be the case given it hasn't moved from the full mark in 5000 miles. Unfortunately yours seems to have a different problem in light of the fact it appears to be losing coolant by somehow being blown out. Make sure you get a proper diagnosis and solution while it's still in its infancy. I'm sure it must be a fairly straightforward issue.

My level stays the same, just under the max mark. Not had to top it up.
As Keith said, it seems it is being blown out.
Where did you get the CR-V from?

stoneacre chesterfield. It's just the cheek that they think you've got nothing better to do than book the car in, trapse to the dealership over nothing. Bought the coolant from vertu Honda derby as I was working that way. They were less than impressed that a new car went out needing coolant.
I'll keep an eye on it.

Yes, we are now Stoneacre in Rotherham, Gilders sold out to them. Only the lady on service reception remains of the old Gilders staff that you see in the show room. All sales staff have gone. Think most of the mechanics (or technicians as they are now called) are still there.
Don't know what to make of them yet. Honda knowledge of new staff not brilliant. Had a map sensor (known issue on 1.6 diesel) fail in Scotland, Rotherham no real help (advice or knowledge) but Honda Inverness diagnosed over the phone.
