8th Generation (2006-2011) vehicle added by Sims77, Tuesday 17th Mar, 2015
Sims77 added a new Honda to the garage:
FD2 Civic Type-R
Check the vehicle's full information here.
She's at the importers at the minute getting prepared for her SVA test and the UK roads. I'm so excited!
She looks just absolutely fantastic, what a gorgeous colour
Thank you, I'm so excited it's killing me
I don't blame you, just don't let @SpeedyGee see this - he won't be able to stand up for the rest of the day
I've already starting to buy cosmetic bits to tart her up.
She looks absolutely stunning mate.
Look forward to seeing and hearing more about her when she is in your possession.
I'm also waiting for an IVA test date for the Edix.
This is my third import and I still can't get used to the waiting but it's also good because of the anticipation.
@Sims77 - as someone who has imported a few cars then, it would be interesting to hear what the procedure, waiting times, costs, legal requirements etc are for the entire process if you get a chance.
I've always gone through Andy at BHPcars. I can't recommend him enough.
From my point of view:-
I contact Andy and tell him what car im after, mileage, condition, if i want mods or stock etc.
He then has a look on the auction sites and dealer sites, then comes back to me with a OTR price.
If we agree then i pay him £500 deposit and he starts searching for a car.
This can take a while depending on the rarity of the car or requirements.
I was searching for nearly a year as my requirements kept changing. I wanted a facelift DC5 in Blue or Black with very low miles but they're very rare now. So i changed and asked him to look for white as well. His guys in Japan kept looking at cars but they were higher miles than i wanted or in too rough of condition. His team in Japan have very high standards.
I then joked that i would have an FD2 and he came back and told me its possible.
When he finds cars he sends you a lot of pictures and a report from Japan on its condition.
If you agree then they bid on it. This can get frustrating if you get gazumped.
If you win then he asks for the price of the car, Japan side fees (exporting, de-registering), His agents costs, Shipping and Importing costs. Basically the cost to get the car out of Japan and to our shores.
The next frustrating bit is getting the car on the ship. You can miss boats or the top manufacturers can swoop in and buy the whole boat space up which leaves your car on the dock.
Once the car is here after 4 - 6 weeks then he requires the cost of getting the car registered here, SVA/IVA test, MOT, Servicing, Undersealing, Alarm fitting and anything you would like doing to the car (mods etc). I may have missed something?
Finally you get a collection date and you go view the car and finally pay his fee which is £750 for him. Some other importers charge more.
Throughout the process you get lots of pictures and this time I've been getting videos of the odometer conversions etc.
It is a long process and it can have some testing times but the end result is a car that is spotless. Before the car is under-sealed you usually get a picture of underneath and its cleaner than the UK cars off the production line.
She really is smashing Mark. I don't blame you for being excited.
I've had a message that the car is prepped and we're waiting on the SVA inspector, who is on holiday until next Monday. So I have a week of waiting now
It looks a nice car, but I don't think I could be bothered to wait that long for it lol.
A lot of people can't but I know it's worth it.
Japanese imports are a lot cleaner and fresher than our cars. My 2000 reg S15 was cleaner than 3 year old cars here.
Plus the importers usually pick up on any faults before you get the car.
Unlike our dealers who try and hide the problem to make more money.
I don't think I could buy from the UK market again but you do have to be in a position to have the cash spare.
So a small update.
She's had her MOT and flew through. I've had tints fitted to the rear and she's looking mighty fine.
Still waiting on the IVA date but its service and undersealing tomorrow.
Andy has also fitted my stereo for me as well, which is really nice of him.
I predict she is going to be doing a lot of flying around soon. She looks stunning, if you don't mind me asking a personal question, whats the total cost for you so far including buying her?
My total OTR price is £14k
I've paid him in full as I trust him not to do a runner. Lol
Little bit of an update.
My car is booked in for its IVA / SVA test on Thursday.
Then it's just down to the DVLA and I can pick it up
I assume it has a double DIN headunit fitted as standard?
I've got a couple of fascia adaptors for these (and Hybrid)
I had an aftermarket one fitted and they importer had a surround spare that fitted.
I do know someone who could be after one though.
