On receiving the genie I took straight to my work bench and started to strip the covers to find every single bolt in perfect condition and shining away as brand new. First step remove the spark plug and that will tell you what's going on .
There lie the big problem this spark plug won't come off it was as if it was welded on .. so got a longer extension and took the plug to find aluminium shards stuck on the spark plug thread pitch. The threads pitch on the head were chewed.A minor set back but I was confident the threads could be re tapped or even helicoiled. Next day took it to a local lathe shop and the operator said that plug has never come off the head and it happens so it not a case of cross threading. He re tapped and it was brand new.
So off comes the head to find no carbon at all in the combustion camber and side valves.
I damaged a carb gasket in the process so I remade the gasket freehand on gasket paper
The business end of the gennie, the bore is perfect no play on the piston and after a quick clean.
The next day a new spark plug fitted and head gasket and torqued down as per workshop manual.
Next to look at the CB points, the points had minor crusts a hot with emery paper and re gapped and then cleaned out with WD40.
Next step look at the carb which has the worst gumming I have ever seen. It was black thick crude oil residue it was nasty I dare not pick my phone with that stuff, so removed that then took pictures.
I soaked the carb for two days in IPA before I ran it in a ultrasonic cleaner. The brass float was sticky , the main jet was coated in black and teh entire internals has layers and layers of gumming.
The carb was run for two hours at 75 degrees C to clean it to perfection , the needle vale height checked and put back together. To find the fuel won't release any fuel!!
On stripping found the fuel tap gummed with its brass wire gauge full of rubbish . Hand cleaned then chucked into the ultrasonic cleaner. all rubber parts were removed otherwise they will expand.
Fuel tanks rinsed and cleaned out then steam cleaned. and dried out thoroughly.
Whilst everything was in the ultrasonic cleaner get the air filter intake system checked and new air filter.New filter oiled using the correct stuff.
The gennie was resembled and my phone died..
More to follow.
The carb after the ultrasonic clean. All off the gumming is gone.
Just out of the cleaner.
Time for re-
Mount the carb back on its manifold
Reattach and reroute all hoses correctly.
More to Follow soon.
