05 cdti diesel 103k miles, receipts for plenty of oil changes & recent fuel filter. Smokes on cold start...a hell of a lot...like a smoke screen!! Lasts a few seconds and does it much less when hot starting.
Also kicks out a good amount of smoke when up the rev range at working temperature, this seems like need for an EGR clean. I suspect I may have one of the leaky injectors as can smell diesel...will take a look when the gales stop. Any pointers please? Ta, Neil

The usual cause of smoking is over fueling. It's common on remapped diesels.

Ah, I missed the point of smelling diesel, Doc has it the nail on the head then I think.

it doesnt use any oil ie none in 3.5k miles but it does use diesel, quite frugally

Have you found any clues to this bud,can you take the acoustic cover off and get a picture of the injectors?
